Help me with my radiator..

i was trying to fill up my windshield fluid this morning, and i found out that my radiator leaked. the leak was from a slight crack that on the top tank of the radiator. now i'm figuring out whether i need to buy new or used one. so my questions are: should i get used one or new one? if i have to get new one, where i can find the racing radiator (thinking it would a perfect time to upgrade)? and if i have to get used one, will the A/T one work on M/T? my car is M/T

Thanks
edy

I'm my own research from courtesyparts.com. according to the web, it seems that 4th gens' radiators are the same with 5th gens 'cause it shares same parts except for auto.

this website http://racewayparts.com/nissanmaxima...AD-MAX-95.aspx
sells a racing radiator for 4th gen only 'cause it states 1995-1999 manual.

So guys, do you think that 4th and 5th gens share the same radiator?

I don't see the point in a "racing radiator". Our radiators are more than able to do their job in any condition. A racing radiator is not going to increase power or keep your engine any cooler than a stock radiator.

If a stock radiator is cheaper that would be the better choice. You'll know it's going to fit and you can spend the money on a real upgrade.

Yeah a racing radiator just seems pointless, unless you plan to race your heavily modified race built maxima? A stock radiator does what it needs to do because it keeps the engine at optimal operating temperature, what extra benefit is a racing radiator going to give you?

Check any local japanese auto parts shop. Mine was leaking in the same place, I got my aftermarket rad brand new for around $120 and it works great, install is simple as well. I say go new ofcourse because you might have the exact problem with a used one in the short term. Try not to go to the dealer cause they would most likely overcharge you for an oem one.

you have two options, the temp cheap fix or the permanent professional way

cheap..... if the leak is from one of the plastic end tanks you can, sand it down a bit and apply JB weld to the crack, make sure you overlap the crack by a bit so it properly seals...... worked on my old radiator like a charm...

professional.... find a group buy on a replacement koyo radiator and hop on that

Thanks for your input. i personally like to replace it than doing a "cheap" work.but I might have to do cheap work first while i'm waiting for my new rad.

ok, a couple things if your going to do it the cheap way......

make sure the car is cold

wipe off any fluid that has already leaked out from the end tank, in the area ou will be applying the jb weld

now sand the area and around it a bit so when you apply the jb it will get a firm hold on the plastic

once satisified with the sanding wipe it down with denatured alcohol, that will make sure there are no oils or remaining plastic particles in the area.

make sure you use the real jb weld not the quick, i personally think it doesnt hold as well, could just be my head

apply enough to cover the crack and the surrounding area, i did mine in 1 thick layer and let it dry over night under a heat lamp

when i did mine it held for about 6 months until i gathered the energy to get the koyo.

Maxima org members get a deal with Koyo radiators. goto the GROUP DEALS/SPONSORS forum and the Koyo radiator post is about 3/4 of a page down.

According to Koyo, a 4th gen radiator is not the same as the 5th gen.

Late 1999 thru 2001) for $150 shipped.

Manual trans & auto trans use the same radiator.

I bought one for my 97 max and they shipped it same day. Installed it - a perfect exact fit.

If you put an egg in the radiator, I would think you would want to flush the cooling system REAL REAL good afterwards. Boil some water on the stove and then break an egg in it. Not in my engine, thank you.
