1.) Odd for an ac to go so early. Have the fluids been routinely changed?
2.) Leather flat-out ripping is quite uncommon. You and your passenger should be more wary of items in your back pockets
3.) Carpet is wearing? Don't you use floormats?
4.) The seat backside is held in with 4 retaining pins (plastic); they WON'T come out unless pulled on
Sounds to me as though this is more of a failure to maintain as opposed to design issues..

When I got my max at ~60k miles (Currently 120k), there was a small hole in the carpet on the drivers side where your heel sits. Since I've had it it has not grown at all. I have the mat down, I'm not sure if the person who owned it before me used it or not.
A/C still blows cold as can be!

my a/c is also broken. but i dont need it. my carpet was ripping where my heels sat. so i put in a diamond plate kick plate. and leather cracks unless you take care of it. if you put the time and effort into loving your maxima PHYSICALLY then maybe it would last a little longer and you wouldnt be sick of it.

my interior is in great condition on my 2k at 96k miles.......a little dirty. none the less in good condition. my a/c is very cold but doesn't seem to be quite enough airflow to cool it of. it takes a good 25 mins to cool the whole car...then again im in az but still idk

A/C on these cars are diesel. You could literally hang meat in my car when its on max ac.

I have had almost none of those issues. We had some issues with O2 sensors back around 100kish (had to replace a couple, another went bad but i never did anything about it and the CEL went out).
Our transmission is showing signs of wear as the engine speed dips down quite a bit when we shift out of park -- but once it's in gear it runs like a champ.
We had a flange break on the exhaust due to a hanger breaking off (rust), but what can you expect when the car was in Iowa for the first 8 years of its life. $75 to get everything welded back together.
Nothing else has gone wrong with the car...at all! Oil every 3k and A/T fluid changes every 30k or so (changing to synthetic ATF this weekend). I don't think we've changed the brakes since getting the car with 60k. This has been one cheap car to maintain!
ETA: If I had one complaint about the car it would be the paint/exterior. Our Max has a few rust spots -- both rear fenders have pretty significant bubbles in the paint...and lots of other places are showing the first signs of surface rust. Again, Iowa winters....

Sorry the trend just seems to tell you that basically it sounds more like it's your fault rather than the car's.
From the 11,000 miles I've owned my maxima nothing's gone wrong with it that wasn't my fault except for some rusted exhaust and it cost me $10 to fix..

My A/C messed up around 124k. Nothing serious, the compressor and everything still works. I just need to shell out $175 for a blower motor and a resistor. My fan works on speed 4 only, and it squeals like a stuck pig. Just got unlucky, I guess.

Learn to appreciate what's good about your car, and simply fix the things that can be fixed as they break. It's a car, for crissakes... things will need repair over time.
You know, the 5th Gen is a fantastic automotive design... power, creature comforts, style and quality mechanics, all for a very reasonable price.
Grow up and be an adult. You can do it.

You're talking about maintenance and upholstery issues. These are minor annoyances, and not valid gripes for an overall negative opinion.

145k miles on my 2000, owned it two years now. So far I've replaced the starter, clutch and MAF. AC still works fine as does everything else.
Previous owner said it didn't give him many problems, he just wanted to get this spiffy M3 he spied locally. I suspect he's kicking himself now for giving up a fully reliable car. Then again, the M3 *is* a great driving car...

My family bought me a 2000 Maxima as a graduation present this March and I've had to drop $2k into the thing already and I'm still not done. They want me to get rid of it but I love it too much! I can't see your dilema, I have it just as bad as you.

I baby the interior of my car (and get teased for it quite a bit in the process). I was pissed when I found out someone had punched a little hole in my rear passenger door panel with who knows what...
...and I was even more devastated when some fool did a hit and run and ruined my poor rear bumper. Thank God for the invention of dent-resistant bumpers...
