5th gen exhaust question

i'm wondering what advantages an aftermarket exhaust system offers. i'm reading in different posts that the factory dual tip system offers a good balance of low end torque and high end power by creating additional backflow at lower speeds by closing one opening. does that added back pressure help the low end torque??
also, if it does, where is that opening/closing occurring? if it's in the muffler itself, why not just replace everything in front of it and leave the stock muffler to get the best of both worlds??
just asking cuz i think i wanna start doing performance mods.

If you are considering an aftermarket exhaust setup, start with the y-pipe. You will get good gains from that alone. Then, work your way backwards to the cat, and then the b-pipe. The stock muffler is not bad, and you could definitely keep it even if you mod out the rest of the exhaust. You can get a custom b-pipe fitted to it.

that's the plan if i can drum up some cash. i just wanted a gameplan before jumping into it. every hundred dollars is a lot when you're trying to save up for an engagement ring.
