Engine swap align flyweel w.crank sensor

got my engine in on my 02 6 spd but cannot turn the car over. I read the flywheel needs to be aligned with the crank sensor on the tranny. Can someone advise how this is done. Also, what's the procedure to reset the ECU?

Thanks,

By 'cannot turn the car over' I assume you mean the engine won't run?

You look at the alignment mark on the flywheel, look at the mark on the crank, line them up

For the ECU reset, did you not search?

...etc. The search function is very helpful.

Flywheel / Crank alignment

Tks pmohr, but what do the marks on the flywheel & crank look like? I'm not that technical and want to make sure I describe what is needed correctly to my Mechanic.

Tks,

Bob

Tks,

Bob
It's fairly obvious if you're actually doing it:

Though really had your mechanic done any reading before swapping your engine, this would've been avoided.

tks again Pmohr. In fact, I recall this step being done. Correct me if I'm wrong, but, the flywheel would not fit on properly and one could not complete this assembly unless this was alignment properly.

It's perfectly possible to bolt up the flywheel incorrectly. I've had to fix more than my fair share of 'backyard mechanics' doing their own clutch/flywheel installs on VQ35s that failed to properly line up the flywheel.

There have been a dozen or so threads in this subforum alone that have been diagnosed (and fixed as) an incorrectly aligned flywheel.

so, assuming I've got the flywheel aligned right, which I'm sure it is, what can I try since the car won't stay on?

If you're 'sure' that it's aligned correctly, why did you ask about it?

So now it won't stay on? As in it starts up, then it dies? Or does it just not start up at all?

Have any codes?

i asked just to make sure. I myself am not as technical as my mechanic, however, i did see that he matched the pin with the hole on the flywheel. I don't have obd meter to read the codes. I'll have to invest in one. I tried to reset the computer as per the link you provided but no success. I'm thinking its the MAF. Any suggestions to weed out this as a problem?

Tks,

You can check the codes without a scanner.

The MAF shouldn't cause a starting issue.

ok, are you asking how to align the CRANK SENSOR with the flywheel (like the title states) or the flywheel with the crank? If the sensor is off and not reading the teeth properly on the timing ring you will have the starting issue. make sure its bolted up there straight. also, check other things like the grounds!!

So, just got back from my loca Nissan dealer. I'm told since my battery has been disconnted for some time my keys need to be reprogramed for it to start. Now while it may be possible, who know with our car, it just does not seem so. Can anyone advise? Is there a procedure this this that I can down load?

Tks,

Bob

It's always a possibility. Does the security light stay on while cranking?
