Whats wrong with my brakes?

Just noticed this morning at a slow roll i have a light metal on metal noise. seems to be from the left front tire. When I brake the noise gets much worse. No lights are on and I have not done any troubleshooting yet. Just looking for some thoughts.....Thanks for any help

The pads are prob nearing their end, time for replacement or you just need to clean and lube the anti-rattle shims.

Thanks for the reply...the pads probably do need to be changed but they never squeaked to much before and this problem is when I'm driving without the brake on. I looked a little closer and it almost seems the pad is rubbing the rotor at all times. IDK how to check if the caliper is stuck or not but since the noise gets worse when i brake its probably still opening and closing fine. How to I look at the anti-rattle shims and how do I lube them...thanks for the help

Replace the pads. Most new pads come with the shims attached. Lube the caliper slide pins (the two you remove to remove the caliper).

Worn pads will cause noise with or w/o applying the brakes.

Change your brakes before you cause rotor damage.

Check that the sliding guide pins are corrosion free, easy sliding and well lubed, check that the boots are in good condition and whether the piston is near fully extended! You should be able to press the piston back in with a C clamp, Open your bleed screws so you don't blow the seals in your ABS pump! Most calipers that are sticking are hard to press in even with a C-clamp.....Oh yeah change you fluid!

alright so I had my mechanic change my rotors and pads. He said only the front had to be changed and the back have 10,000 miles more at least blah blah blah. Anyways, I never told him the noise was coming from the rear left tire and that noise is still there. If he said he checked and its fine, but the noise is still there, then wtf??

thats awesome. Why would a mechanic tell me nothing is wrong if he knows I'm going to pay him to replace it? I mean he has always been pretty honest with me but really? I can't stand the noise so I'm thinking of getting some money and just replacing them even though he disagrees
