Clutch related advice .. aftermarket or no?

hey guys .. im going to be doing a tranny swap soon and was wondering while the tranny is out .. what should i do wqith the clutch?

basically, my differential bearing is gone and leaking like a mother.

so i bought a 4th gen max trans (LSD) and gonna swap it out.

while the trans is out would it be a good idea to do the throwout bearing / clutch plate and everything? or just leave it and just do the trans swap? it doesnt feel like the clutch is worn out.

and shoiuld i just go get a stock clutch kit .. or go aftermarket. advice? ..

Do the clutch and flywheel. It will be right there. More than perfect timing.

If it shows any appreciable amount of wear, replace it. Otherwise, leave it be.

FWIW you'll want to swap the shift yoke over from your old trans to the new one, or your shifter won't sit in the same position it used to. It'll be more forward of center, IIRC.

I will say yes you should get an aftermarket clutch system, It will rev quicker since the flywheel is lighter and the clutch will last longer since it's made from a harder material....You will have some chatter but nothing to really worry about...

That's ***uming he would get a lightweight flywheel at the same time.

Getting an aftermarket clutch has nothing to do with the flywheel getting lighter.

yea if i do the performance clutch kit .. id prlly end up getting a lightweight flywheel while im at it as well.

something like this setup right here:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/EXEDY-Clutch-FIDA...3A1%7C294%3A50

any good performance gains from the flywheel? experiences etc..

and pmohr..
if i tell my mechanic that put the old shift yoke to the new trans .. will he understand what i mean? any instruction of how to do it.. or what they are? haha

I don't know what moron would get an aftermarket clutch and still use there 30lbs stock flywheel so don't say that it has nothing to do with a lighter flywheel because everyone who's anyone assumes that you change both... also If you actually read my post i said AFTERMARKET CLUTCH and here's the kicker SYSTEM!!!! meaning you change the whole system pmohr...

He should, I imagine. It's where the control rod bolts up to the trans.

I know of many highly modified vehicles that have aftermarket clutches and stock flywheels.

Just because it's lighter, doesn't mean it's better. You're using a blanket statement that is completely false. It depends on two things; driver preference, and application.

Let's see what type of 'morons' we have on the org. From a quick read through the FI section we have Stillen Maxima, TJ_Max, etc.

Oh, and me.

So with a clutch 'system' would you also be changing out the slave? master? lines?

The whole clutch 'system' involves quite a bit more than just the pressure plate, disc, and TOB. It does not include the flywheel. There's a reason they are referred to separately, and not as a 'system'.

'Everyone who's anyone'? Key word you used: assumes. You know what they say about that...

If you're talking about the VQ35, it's different; with a dual mass flywheel, and most aftermarket clutches having sprung hubs, then it's more acceptable to assume that one would go with a lightened flywheel. However if you actually pay attention to the topic of this thread, it's about a VQ30 5MT, where many have gone aftermarket clutches with a stock flywheel.

In short:

I was thinking about the VQ35 since they all come with dual-mass and this is a 5th gen forum soooo ok your right and i'm wrong, I will also say that a lightweight flywheel is better than a stock flywheel but you know more than me obviously so tell him to change his clutch and not do the flywheel lmao....

You buy a used trans from a 10yr old vehicle and leave the stock flywheel....Sounds like a great idea...

This is a 5th/5.5 gen subforum, but the OP clearly has an A33 per his profile.

Err...what does the flywheel have to do with buying a trans? Again, not related.

And again, stock/lightweight flywheels are hardly a necessary mod, even when doing an aftermarket clutch; as I said before, it comes down to driver preference and specific application.
