Opinions on OEM spoiler or no spoiler

I am contemplating getting a rear spoiler. I have gone back and forth between a spoiler and not having one. I have also thought about getting a carbon fiber sport universal spoiler that is low profile and doesn't look extremely ricy. But if I go with a CF spoiler I would want to go with a CF trunk. I was looking for any opinions on spoilers. I was also thinking about looking a junk yard 5th gens and just take off the trunk and not have to paint anything, and just bolt it on. Any suggestions would be great.

Why dont you get an M3 style spolier? Its small and low key, but makes a non-spoiler maxima look soooo sexy

Really? I always thought the trunk design on the 5th gens made these sit in a way that looks... off. That's just my .02, though.

Man WTF IS THAT? I saw some crap like that when I went to a rockets game 3 months ago. Wasn't in my car (would've had to put him to shame). Some how my old man kept asking me if thats what I wanted and thought the whole thing was funny.

Most anything other than the OEM spoiler would be ricey, almost by definition. But it's your car, and your eyes. Obviously in those pics here, someone blew a fortune on lambo doors, skirts and an extremely gay spoiler... but they like what they see. Taste is personal, and there's no accounting for it.

However, you're asking for opinions. Here's one: there's something "smallish" about the 5th Gen without a spoiler. Get one, and go OEM.

De-spoilered mine, it gives the car a more Euro/modern look rather then the generic 5th gen w/spoiler theme. Keep in mind that de-spoiling was part of a full make-over my Max got (Added TE Lamps and Rims). On a practical note, I swear my Max is more agile w/o the spoiler, it may be more psychological than anything else but would make sense since the purpose of a spoiler is to create drag and keep the rear-end down (still don't see why a fWD would ever need a spoiler). So, in conclusion it’s your choice but from the perspective of a Max owner who has had a spoiler and tossed it I would focus on other aspects of your Max……

i like the look of the oem spoiler in my opinion it looks like a bar of soap without it.

There are two separate applications for spoilers there are those which create downforce to keep you planted at high speeds and others which help reduce drag to increase efficiency. I'm not sure where the maxima's spoiler stand and if i had to guess its just there as an accessory to look good.

There is no spoiler better than stock and yes a spoiler looks better than a trunk without one. If I was you, I would definitely hit up some junkyards and looks for similar color spoilers and throw them right on. Just make sure you measure correctly cause the last thing you want to do is have to make extra holes on your trunk.

CF trunks are nice but are expensive and dont look great if thats the only CF you have on your car. You would have to match it with a CF hood IMO.

g35 spoiler WTF! haha i like it without the spoiler but both are good. My OEM one start to chip, sooo instead of getting it repainted it cost a little more for a g35 painted. Also the trunk weigh a lot with one so you might want to install some hood struts to support.

Well, damn! Smack me for saying this, but that Infiniti spoiler looks perfectly fine on the Maxima. Not at all ricey... just different enough to be interesting. Funny, that, because I'm of the opinion that the Infiniti G rims look good on the Maxima, too.

Spice... worms... what is the relationship?

Anyway, to Maxima112 -- that is a very nice look. Well done.

i think the g spoiler on the back looks good too it doesnt quite match the sides like the oem spoiler does but it does a good job of giving some definition to the back end so it isnt so soft.

I was just gonna do a poll myself on this.....I do like the g35 spoiler cause it definitely is a subtle change but enough to set it apart... I haven't seen any pics of the M3 style but if color matched and mounted correct I can see that looking clean... So does anybody have any pics of some different styles M3, Stock modified, No spoiler etc...?

Oh and please no pics like the white max above....already feel bad enough for the poor car...Bad enough the owner put it on there, but to have people use your car as an example for the worst wing selection ever is brutal...

Take that damn wing off.....

I'd say OEM spoiler is a yes. The only way I'd rock no spoiler is if I had a CF trunk, and even then, the Ionic OEM CF rear spoiler looks tempting.

I believe the OE spoiler sets off the tail, but the only problem is when spme of the lights burn out, work is involved.

I personally like the look of the OEM spoiler far better than with no spoiler..it just looks too plain. However, I like the idea of the M3 spoiler or something subtle like that..

I agree that without a spoiler it just feels like something missing. I think the OEM Spoiler was a great design for the car that gives it that something extra.

i went back and forth and eventually ended up spoilerless with a cf trunk, the stock one looks alright in the kinda mean sporty sence, but i went a slightly more sleek look. same thing with my wifes 95.

i think it really depends on the rest of the look of the car, stock i think the spoiler looks pretty good, i think its all about flow. our cars have some great lines and con look really hot in a lot of different ways. long as theyres nothing huge back there, blah, i hate big spoilers

if u add one, esp from a junk yard, try and grab the spring rod things in the trunk that assist, they should have different ones or more of them on cars equiped with a stock spoiler, i had to remove one when i went to a cf trunk, otherwise it would have just flung open.

Late reply, (and OT) but if I remember correctly, wasn't there a Max in one of the F&F movies?

IMO, the spoiler makes the maxima. With no spoiler, its a grocery getter for sure.

I was thinking that going OEM is the only way to go, until I saw those pics of the G35 spoiler. That looks great and sets it apart from the normal.

Stay away from aftermarket though. They all definitely look rice to me.

Aw damn.....i forgot about the added HP!!! My bad......

In that case, get a spoiler from a top fuel dragster.....it will add like 6700 hp to your ride.....

your car will look so badass, and you'll take anyone off the line
