Ideas for Knock Sensor Removal?

Well, last night I attempted to remove my knock sensor to check for corrosion. I hadn't realized what a PITA this would be until 2 hours in...I've ready the 4th gen how-to's, but they don't really describe any really good methods of removing it other than "be patient" (which I was).

I didn't/couldn't take of my upper IM because of the spacers so I attempted with 3 different length socket-wrenches, an open end wrench and other methods, but due to my very little space to work with, every turn would result in the wrench coming off the bolt (due to me not be able to apply downward pressure via lack of workable space). So before stripping the bolt, I called it a night.

I was wondering if anyone has any methods of getting this damn thing off? I'm going to attempt again tomorrow with a ratchet wrench to see of that yields any better results. Thanks in advance.

when i had to change mine, i end up removing upper and lower IM. 5th gens have coolant line blocking access to the sensor.

The coolant line really isn't in the way so much as part of the block is under the manifold. It's just really annoying because whenever a ratchet gets on, it slips off due to limited space. And it doesn't help that it seems as if God himself tightened it...

You could try to relocate the KS (ie put the new one at different place), and leave the old one where it is. This topic was widely debated on the 4 gen forum.

Hey, not a bad idea! I'll have to research more on prime places to relocate, but this might be the route I take. Did they highlight any key (and hopefully easy to get to) places?
