Slow decline in power over last 6 months...thoughts????

I cleaned the CAI and have changed tranny fluid and oil. Only things I can think of to do is to change plugs (I dont have the money to pay someone to do this as I hear they are a nightmare) change the fuel filter (I can do that myself) and clean the MAF (I can do this and its never been done before)

What are you alls thoughts?

Thanks as always ORGers yall are the best!

I would definitely try cleaning the MAF since this can be done for around $10.

Its just odd that when I stomp on it bogs down so much. Honestly it feels like the car is having a hard time breathing. Its like when a person is swimming and about to go under water and they take that huge deep breath and then hold it in. Thats what the car does and then it kicks but it kicks no where near what it once did. Granted I have two speeding tickets in 2 months so I dont need the speed I would just like to know where the hell it went!!!!

It could be your VIAS... how often do you take it over 5k? If the VIAS is/was in the process of breaking maybe it wasnt opening/closing all the way. I would check that out.

This is my guess as well. I have an 01 that is experiencing the same problem (sluggish, boggy down low more spirited up top). I dont suspect plugs or anything due to the fact my mileage has gone up, whichis WAY weird. Car always get premium (93 in my area), started on Mobil1 and has been AMSOil for the last 3+ years and tranny fluid changed every other year. Plugs do have about 33K on em, but bad plugs give WORSE gas mileage from my experience.

I also have two MAFs in my posession. A "new" one (revamped) on the car and the "old" one (that I took delivery with). I have "cleaned" with the spray late last year. Maybe Ill give that a try again.

So I am going to pull the VIAS and I suspect a broken product. I had a thread saved off that showed how to repair and how to properly set the position, but seem to have lost it. Guess I got some searching to do.

EDIT: Found what I was looking for. I hate how the old threads got messed up with indexing and made it harder to sift through.

Vqpower also has the VIAS fix on their website...usually when the cup breaks off, the break/hole in the cup is ovalish (so it could only fit back on 2 ways) just make sure notch in the cup is facing in and lined up with the lines on the VIAS and you should be all set.

It is, at least with the cup breaking.
