windows roll themselves down in a rainstorm?

This morning, after an all night rainstorm I came out to my car and noticed both of my front windows were halfway down, so immediately i thought "OH NO!!! I"VE BEEN ROBBED!!!" but then, nothing was gone, my pioneer dvd stereo was still there and my ipod was still in the center console, the bad part tho is that my interior got all wet. I could not figure it out until i googled it and everything it pulled up was about nissan cars (titan, murano, altima etc) windows rolling down during severe rainstorm and the funny thing is I didnt type "nissan" anywhere in the search so this must be a nissan specific thing. what can i do about this? I'm afraid if it happens again i just might GET ROBBED

I have never heard of that. I have owned 2 Maxima's and 1 Altima. That is odd!

Where was your keyfob?

On the 4th gen (and the 5th gen too? not sure), the front windows roll down if you hold down unlock. If it was getting mashed in your pocket, it's possible that it opened the windows.

I just googled it myself, seems like it mostly happens on Altima's.

Is it possible the unlock button on the fob got pushed and held from the time you got out of the car to the time it got on your nightstand?

It's possible i pushed the button yes but then is it coincidence that when this has happened to other people it has been during a severe rain storm and it just so happened to be a severe rain storm last night when it happened to me?

Thats pretty funny. Too bad they wouldn't automatically roll down a crack when it got above 80degrees.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say lightening or the high humidity during a storm is somehow screwing up the electrical system

they decided to remove that feature from the maxima during 2000-2001, but Nissan thought, hey! we we should bring it back for 2002+ ...bastards lol

That's what i'm thinking too. it was so bad last night they issued a severe weather warning on the emergency broadcast. there was sooo much lightning and rain... it was pretty awesome actually.

Its static electricity doing it, causing a surge and a singnal to roll down the windows

WHOA! Thanks Nalc, what a sweet trick. Pretty intelligent system too on the 03. First time it just cracks the windows 2", second time it drops them all the way down. Any other FOB tricks aside from making the horn go off and stuff when i hold the red panic button!? DOH!

Is there anyway you can make it happen with the 00 01 maximas?

ya. i think you have to get a couple of modules that hook into your SECU..

i would imagine.. one that would let you have auto down on passenger... then something that would hook into grabbing the signal from the security system

That's one of the best features. Now, if only they'd have made a way to hold down the lock button and be able to put the windows back up!

Check the master switch on the drivers side door and do a little bit of searching. I think someone found that it was shorting out due to moisture and causing the windows to go down. I haven't has this issue, but I THINK I saw it somewhere on the org.

Didn't see much of a point to starting another thread while on the topic of fobs and windows, so: I'm sure you might already know this, but I noticed on the wifes old '02 that putting the key in the door and holding it in the unlock (to the right) position will roll the window down and likewise, holding the key in the lock (to the left) position will bring the window back up.

Also, while were discussing auto roll up/down features, is there any way of putting this feature on the '00-'01 on the passengers side? Is it a simple switch swap or something more involved?

Not too sure what "FTL" stands for, but would this mean a 2001 Maxima AE would have the keyfob-unlock button window down feature?

I think there is a module for that, but I cannot recall the website. My cousin did it for his G35x

I am new to this forum and happened across this recent post. I am surprised know one spoke of the fix published by Nissan itself.
Maybe not yours, but search for tsb or recall or something. The reason it struck a nerve here was it was something I wanted to check and prevent on my 01 Maxima during the summer. Lately I am involved with keeping the dang road capsule from self destructing in other ways.
Anyway search here or google 'doors locked when slammed in rain' or doors lock themselves. It is related to poor weatherproofing/design of the wiring in the driver's door. the window/lock controls go through a soon to be corroded connecter. I don't remember windows, but hey the green goo can just as easily mess up windows as locks, I would think.
