Radiator replaced... SES?
Radiator replaced... SES?
I just replaced my cracked OEM radiator with a Koyo from the group deal here on the forum. I'll run through what I did after taking the old rad out and inserting the new one:
1. Connected both top and bottom hoses
2. Connected the AT coolant lines
3. Connected the reservoir hose
4. Connected the fans power lines
5. Filled the radiator with Prestone 50/50 to the top
6. Left the radiator cap off, started the car, and watched the coolant level
7. Let the car run for about 10 minutes and let the fans go on and off
8. Checked the radiator hose to see if it was hot and it was
9. My engine temp was steady right below half
Decided to go for a drive on the highway and about 7 minutes in my SES light came on. I've double checked all hoses and made sure there are no leaks.
I did put a bit too much coolant in the reservoir, but not by more than a couple millimeters over the MAX line.
So I'm all out of ideas... ANYONE???

The car is trying to tell you what is wrong, why would you ignore that? You need to check the codes, it's the FIRST thing you should've done before even making this thread. Seriously, I just don't get the thought process there.
Let me point you to the stickies, which you should've consulted before even making a thread:

!!!!DO NOT POST ASKING HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT CODE IS CAUSING THE CEL/MIL **OR ** HOW TO FIX THE CEL WITHOUT THE PXXXX CODE!!!!(We are NOT psychic)
What you should do:
1)Get the DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code) that is stored in your ECU that caused the CEL(check engine light), ie P0140, P0134, PXXXX, etc, from your local AutoZone/Parts store. THERE IS NO SCREW that you turn on the ECU like the older 4th gens had and it flashes you the codes. 2000-2001s must use the Autozone guys OBD(On Board Diagnostic) tools or buy one of the online OBD scanners like Alex Peppers' tool(google it). 2K2+ guys can get the SES light to flash the codes by following studmans' procedure off his website, click !!!HERE!!!.
2)Check the FAQ's !!!HERE!!! for what the DTC means and see if there is a possible link to posts from other members who might have ALREADY gone through this same issue and fixed it. If not, once you fix it, post and ask us to add it.
3)Check the TSB's, Technical Service Bulletins !!!HERE!!! that may cover the repair or at least tell you what needs to be done to fix it.
4)If there isn't a link for your DTC PXXXX, then use the SEARCH. If you don't know how to SEARCH, GO !!!HERE!!!
5)*AFTER* reading through the thread(s) that the search pulls up, if you don't know what to do **THEN** post your question with: "PXXXX - How do I fix this?"
!!!! ALL THREADS SUSPECTED OF NOT COMPLYING WILL BE LOCKED/DELETED !!!!

I just knew some answer like that was coming... It never seems to fail when a guy is just trying to get a few ideas.
Yeah I know... Check the codes. Got it!!! Search... Got it!!!
Just thought that in some far fetched way I might get a few ideas at what I may be looking at going forward. Maybe it's possible someone has had similar circumstances that they could share? When I get the chance and it's not 11pm I'll get the codes pulled.
Until then I guess I'll just get the infamous "search!" and "get codes!" in big bolder red letters reply. Thanks

I never said 'search', I merely posted a quote from the stickies (again, which should be consulted before ever making a thread).
Broken link on the TSB page

2002+ SES/MIL and ECU Reset Procedure
This is how to reset all the stored SES/MIL codes in the ECU, as well as resetting all the learned settings in the ECU. Note that it takes between 100 and 200 miles AFTER the reset before the ECU will adapt to your driving style.
This procedure is also helpful in retrieving the stored error codes without the use of an ODB-II scanner. Just follow steps 1-4 and the SES light will flash with a code. The code will be 4 digits long. A "0" is ten flashes. The SES light will pause between digits. If there are multiple codes stored, the SES light will flash the first code, then second, then third... and repeating again at code number 1.

Got Codes...
P0455 = EVAP Control System Gross Leak
P1448 = EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve Open
P1800 = VIAS Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Open
Now... I'll do some searching but any help in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

repairs
P0455 = EVAP Control System Gross Leak
Not related to your repairs
P1448 = EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve Open
Most likely not related to your radiator repair
P1800 = VIAS Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Open
Most likely unplugged. Check connections at sensor in front of UIM

Update
After reading through a few older posts on the EVAP codes I learned that a new gas cap could possibly resolve the issue. I just went by Nissan and picked up a new one for $19 and installed it. Reflashed my ECU to rid the codes and drove around for about 20 minutes around town and on the highway. The SES has yet to return...
I know its way too early to say the problem is fixed, but thought I'd mention it.
Also... people have questioned whether the EVAP Canister and Valve control is covered under extended warranty. It is indeed... So I'll bring my car in if the light comes back on at no cost.
Another thing... There is a slight "hisssss" coming from this little part attached to the UIM. What is this:

I've checked every hose around it and they are all good and connected. Is a small hiss normal for this?
EDIT: Ok... really... ONE last thing. A while back when installing headers and putting the UIM back on I missed connecting one of the hoses and started the car. It idled real wild and sounded crazy for a minute before I figured out I missed a hose connection. Is it possible this VIAS code was stored and brought out with my latest EVAP codes? I dont know if thats possible but thought I'd ask the experts.
Thanks

I've never known one to hiss.
FWIW, my P1800 was a bad VIAS Solenoid Control Valve (exactly what you have pictured). Replaced that and it went away. Can't say that it made any difference in terms of performance though (with the code & without the code).
P0455, P1448 - I've been through the gas cap method (currently using OEM), have sanded down the [rusted] filler neck/hole and codes still come up. I think I just have to give in & grab a new canister & valve.
But bottom line, these codes have nothing to do with the radiator replacement.
