OEM Touch up SPRAY paint
OEM Touch up SPRAY paint
I have done some searching and seen some recommendations such as www.automotivetouchup.com and www.paintscratch.com.
My question is has anybody actually purchased and used paint from either of these places with decent results? I heard that using the dealer OEM spray paint was a waste of money because the color is way off. I do understand that the color of the paint in the can will match "Original" (meaning non-weathered non-faded) color of the car.
Currently I am just trying to recolor my rust repair job on the rear inner wheel wells. They are Rhino-coat black and I just want to get them "close".
I did also notice on close inspection that I will have more visible panels to work on in the future and am trying to lay out my possible options.
Thanks for the feedback!

Is there a specific way to ask the shop the question or just "do you *can* custom mixed paint"?
Hmmm, that would be acceptable as well. So "shops" do that? Put in XXX paint in an aerosol can? Last one I had that done ended up being a can I "inflated" and I couldnt get an even coat because there was no true propellant.

I just ordered a can of spray paint off of a website today for my blue 2002 max color code bw9, I backed into a trailer and scuffed the top of the bumper, denting it a bit, me and my buddy bondoed it today and primed it, I'll let you know how the color matched up once we paint it

What do you mean it wont "hold" the color?
Thats what is currently there. This is just the lip of the rear fender. Not the actual wheel well itself. I did some rust repair and know that it will never look perfect unless I pay a professional to do it. Its a DD. I would never do this to my garage queen (Not trailer, garage).

I am also doing similar work on my car in the wheel well and inside rear door area. Make sure if you use that spray that you cover everything around it and be extremely cautious of overspray. Your best bet is to find somebody experienced with airbrush painting to get a nice even coat.
Also, make sure you put some clear coat overtop of the touchup paint to give it a finished look.

Here in Ontario I picked up from NAPA ( car parts store) my car paint color KT3, just had to provide them my paint code and they mix it and it also has clear coat mixed into an aerosol spray ... they can also bring out there croma meter and read your current paint and then mix it to match right up ... another shop here that mixes paint is CarQuest ... far better match up than those OEM paint color stick from the dealer. Although my mixed cans already had clear coat right in the paint, I still picked up a couple of cans to get a nice finish. Tape off around the area you wish to paint and be sure to cover with newspaper a great deal of the surrounding area to avoid any over spray on other areas, I had several small chip on my bumper so I taped off everything covered up well with paper and repainted my entire bumper.
