muffler - rear section only?

Hey I was looking at the exhaust setups for sale on custommaxima.com

I want the HKS one because it has the dual tip so it will look closer to stock (i dont like those 3.5 and 4 inch ugly tips).

the HKS only comes as the rear section of the exhaust, it is NOT a catback setup.

I really want catback so that I can open up some airflow to help increase backpressure/performance.

I dont know alot about this, does anybody know if it makes a difference to have catback vs. just the rear section of a muffler?

I would change the cat and the catback (bpipe only) and keep the Oem muffler, it's a trick muffler and really flows well and is really the quietest you're gonna find! I went to a Cattman Catback and I still use the Oem muffler on my 03 Maxima now equipped with Cattman headers and WSP Hi flow cat, untuned!

I went with a magnaflow muffler, dual outlet that looks just like the stock muffler except a bit bigger. As for the rest of the pipe i had a shop bend it for me.. i went 2.5 inches.

Hey, that HKS sounds great! Is it a trick baffled muffler like the Oem? What are the actually dimensions of the following?
1. tip size
2. Muffler body (L x W x H)
3. Inlet piping size
Thanks, if you're running no resonator and it seems pretty toned down, you must not be running any headers, ypipe, or test pipe? Any droning in that imfamous 2000-2600 rpm range?

yes i do have a slight drone. but i usually stay at 75 so it does not really bother me. I really do not know if it is trick baffled. (when you look inside it reminds me of my old magnaflow setup) inlet is 2 1/2. and the mid pipe is the same length.

Tips- dual 2 1/2. you know what.....I just detailed it ill take some pics and post em for ya.

Also a no no on headers and y pipe.

Ya I think im gonna go with the megan catback. It looks nice plus has the full pipe setup.

The HKS only has the rear section and it costs more... I dont think im gonna waste my money on that one

I have to pay off my credit card for my air intake $360 CDN before I can buy this...

if you are looking for increased performance like you stated in your initial post you should spend your money on headers/y-pipe

replacing the cattback section only nets a handful of of hp (3-5 if i remember correctly) while headers and y-pipe are good for 3-4X that for about the same amount of money

Ya I am trying to get some money together to buy the cattman headers. I guess Brian has a bunch on back order for sometime close to the end of august. Right now I am trying to get together the cash... I think Im going to get headers before the exhaust because of the gains I can get from them.
