A/C Problems
A/C Problems
OK so here is the story. My 00 Maxima has always had great A/C and heating and the fan would always blow allot of air. But now its Blowing hot air when the entire climate control is off I know I need a recharge, but I don't understand why its blowing heat on me and its almost to hot to drive the car for a long distance because it gets so hot. It feels like there is no firewall. It is extremely frustrating and would appreciate any sort of help. It also seems like the fan motor is going bad because its not blowing as hard as it used to.
When the fan is on can you still switch between the different vents like defrost, upper, and feet?
Also, can you tell if the compressor is coming on?
It sounds like the vent doors that direct the air might not be working properly. They're controlled using engine vacuum and direct the air to flow over the heater core or the AC. Vacuum also controls the flow to the different vents. The problem could be as simple as a vacuum leak.

I can rotate all of the fans to the feet and everything but its just extremely unbearable to drive. I'm pretty sure that the compressor comes on because the air that comes out is cool but not like a/c cool its just cooler air then what is coming through the vents before I turn it on.
When the climate control system is completely off, the air you feel is fresh from the outside. It's the summer, so more than likely it's going to be hot. Do the same thing in the winter and it'll be cold.
Putting the system into recirculation mode closes the vents to the outside, so you shouldn't get any movement of air.

In fact, you can turn a simple repair into a very expensive one by messing with it. Overcharging, undercharging, not vacuuming the system properly, not having enough oil etc... can all cause more problems. The problem may even be caused by a blockage and not a leak. If so, adding more refrigerant can cause serious(expensive) problems with the system.
A/C diagnosis w/ auto climate control
If you have an auto climate control you can run the self diagnosis. By turning the car on and then immediately hold down the OFF button on the climate contol, you'll see all the lights light up and then you turn the temp **** to right to check all the sensors that are associated with the A/C, turn the right again and then it will check the motor doors position checked, turn right again and then actuators check, turn right again and then you can see the output of all the sensors(ambient temp, inside car temp, outside) by using the fan speed buttons. On the first(sensor check) and second(motor door position) check if the codes come up. 1st check you will see a 2 wait 25 seconds and a second number will appear, If a 0 comes up *(20)* all the sensors are fine, second check will appear a 3 you'll have to wait around 50 seconds to check all the air mix door etc. and if a 0 appears. your problem will be to add coolant and you have to do it by temp. and Since I live in Miami, fl it was 89 so i had to put about 32 psi. PS do this test in sun light or if its done in a shadowy area you'll get a error on the first test which is for the sun load sensor on the passager side of the dash board.
