2400 :P That, and my car is just crazy.

I calculate my gas mileage every time I fill up, and I've never gone below 20...and I drive my car like a mad man; my friends are always shocked if I accelerate without hitting redline

you know when my dte reads --- and i fill the gas, i still have a good 2-3 gallons left in the tank which equates to about 50 miles at the very least. so that trip computer is pretty conservative.

i think once it reads --- you should really start finding a gas station.

i can easily go from Albuquerque, NM to Chandler, AZ (415 miles) on 1 tank and still have my DTE read 70 miles. That is going between 75 and 80 on the open highway and slowing down through towns and lots of elevation change with 7% - 8% grades

Wow these are some dramatic differences in gas mileage...Think I'm due for spark plugs or something cause I just had a 90k done about 3 months ago and I'm really lucky in my 01 if I can get 300 to the tank...Hmmmm sounds bad looking at some of these other numbers...Any tips or things I should look for causing such crappy gas mileage...?

My dte doesn't read--- anymore. I get 350 miles, my needle is around half, then it stays around the half mark until around 400mi, then drops to just above a quarter tank.
My light and dte were accurate until a couple of months ago. Now it never goes below a quarter tank. From past experience I was on fumes around 510mi once and 480 (highway tank/city tank) after almost running out the first 2 times my guage acted up.
Now I just fill around 440mi. Not sure what exactly is malfunctioning, but I can live with having to rely on the gauge for the most part.

Use the button of the steering wheel to toggle to each item (except dte, you can't clear that) and hold the button on the steering wheel in until the display zeros out.

I'm getting a combined 25.2mpg if the OBC is accurate, using 89 always. My max has about 85,000 miles on it.

The OBC isn't right...lol. I think it's been close a couple times since I got my car, but other than that, mine reads about 2 mpg optimistic.

Wish I got over 25mpg

Some of you are getting ridiculous mileage. I get 18-21 (280-305 a tank) in my 100k 2000 Maixima GLE auto and always use 93octane. I changed the SAR Apexi filter recently, plugs and do reg oil on time. Just figured it was normal mileage. I guess going straight to 60mph at every light has it's drawbacks.
? I have stock muffler, will aftermarket exhaust help MPG, thought it would make it worse until I read about Y=pipe on here.

no way your mileage can be that crappy no matter how bad your habits are. my driving habits are worse than Nicolas Cage in Gone in 60 Seconds and i still manage about 25 mpg.

maybe you need new plugs, new air filter, new O2 sensor, new MAF, or maybe you just need better gas haha. try driving like a grandma for a month and see if that helps. how often do you replace your brake pads? that should be a pretty good indicator of how "crazy" your driving habits are

Wow... this thread is still on the first page, lol.

I know why my car doesn't get the gas mileage that it should, or used to. I just don't have the money to throw at it right now. It needs a new trans, I've got 173K on the stock transmission and from what I know that is a lot of mileage for a front wheel drive automatic transmission. That and I need to replace the coil for cylinder number 2... I have extra coils laying around, I just haven't taken the time to see how the cylinders are numbered on these cars since every manufacture is different, lol.

Nissan, I don't know, haven't taken the time to really look in to it, but this is what I think (for front wheel drive atleast).

1-3-5
2-4-6

But I don't know, lol.

My 00 Auto max legitimately gets 11 miles to the gallon city and 13 highway. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow, but the mechanics there like to only look at things I point out to them, and fix it. for example, my car was having problems starting up so I told them to look at the starter ... so they replaced the starter three times before they realized all I needed was a new battery and jumpstart. I didn't have to pay for any of this, thankfully. What are some things I should point out to the mech to take a look at? Things on my list so far..exhaust leak, o2 sensor, loose gaskets, what else? Throttle body cleaning maybe?

I always fill up with BP 91+ but lately have been filling up with 87 because it doesn't make a difference what octane fuel I use. I still get the same ****ty mileage. I recently installed a makeshift shortram intake, cleaned my MAF, did a intake system cleansing using seafoam but no significant changes in mpg. I have a CEL for the swirl valve but I doubt that's causing my problems.

I would kill to get 17mpg, no joke. I've been spending so much time at the pump I'd rather take public transport at this point.

well technically our cars are rated at 17mpg city, thanks to the new crappy EPA standards.

Just turned over 315,000 miles on my 2000 SE. Stock exhaust, typically use 89 octane, original fuel pump/filter. Just did 460 mile interstate trip to the beach and got 29 mpg. Typically get 23 -25 in normal mix of highway and city driving. My old 97 SE got slightly lower mpg.

I find that extremely hard to believe. I got a touch over 26 mpg (doing the math, trip computer said 29.5 mpg or so) keeping the cruise on around 72-75 mph and it was just me in the car.

'02 automatics are rated at 19/26 by the EPA and they drive slower than I was on the freeway. Your mileage of 34 mpg, especially at those speeds with a full load defies the laws of physics.

My commute is probably 90% highway, and I use 89 at the local Wawa.

I actually get better gas mileage in the hot summer than any other time of the year, averaging 26 - 27 MPG. I've kept track of this for almost 2 years now.

The winter mix gas it; I only get around 21 MPG.

Definitely not right... how often do you change o/f? have you change the pcv valve? what mods have you done to your car?

some good info for saving gas.

I am happy with the 320 miles I get on 16 gallon fills (20mpg). This is mixed driving; the computers says I average 28mph. I have broken 400 on 15 gallons + a few times on road trips. The car is about to turn 100k; mileage has always been like this.

I am debating adding OBX headers while keeping the stock exhaust so I avoid the pre-cats damaging my rings. Hopefully this will increase mileage as well.
