sunroof stopped working?

I got back into the car and tried to open the sunroof and nothing happend. No sound no nothing, and it just work like 30 mins before. Is there a fuse that might have blown? I dont think that my motor just died like that out of nowhere, there also have not been anything placed on top of it to cause it to be stuck. So what could be the problem... Its a 2000 SE with 227k on the dash.

I'm assuming the 5th gens sunroof is the exact same as the 5.5gen, but have you tried using the other switch that will open it like an inch every time you push it? Everynow and then mine will just not open with the main switch so I use that one and then I close it with that and flip the main one back to closed then the next time I get in the car it works just fine

It does sound like you have a fuse/ wiring problem from what I have read in the FSM which you can find here

http://www.boredmder.com/FSM/Nissan/Maxima/

you will want to read the 2000 Maxima .pdf section EL pages 178-181, which I have displayed below,

did you try to reset it? that button that moves it inch by inch is just the tilt button, meant to tilt the sunroof up and down. the slider button is meant to slide the sunroof, and you slide the button relative to how far you want the sunroof to open. most sunroof issues can be solved by a reset.

if you checked all the fuses and it looks ok, start by checking to see if you are getting power and grounds at the connector on the sunroof to test if switch OK.

also do the same for the sunroof motor.

i doubt it would be the harness, so start from there.
motors and switchs do go bad and so do harnesses but most likely it could be motor or/and switch inop

has to be reset, it's in the manual i think

nissan says it can happen when battery is disconnected, but I had it happen randomly before

And you're not going for the diesel?!?!?!? Are you crazy?!??! ****, I'd slap on a bigger turbo and exhaust and be cranking out the torque :P

pretty sure you just have to hold the sunroof open button for about 10 seconds to reset it.

I fixed my sunroof recently. Here's the thread explaining what I did.

http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...tuck-open.html

End result was that the old grease made it hard to move so I had to clean the tracks and regrease. The process can be done pretty easily with a friend.
