6 speed mileage, 31MPG?
6 speed mileage, 31MPG?
I get an honest 31MPG in my '03 6 speed (60% hwy). I'm just curious if this is typical? I've had it about 4 months now and I'm still surprised when I pull up to the pump.
My MPG has been hovering north and south of 30 over the last few years. Simple bolt-on's like intake and exhaust mods actually improve the mileage if most of your driving is on the highway.
It's a nice feeling, eh? High mileage and (relatively) high performance. From a full-sized sedan no-less! It definately adds to an appreciation for your car.
Enjoy it.
And now prepare for the avalance of mileage boasts and complaints. It's coming...

Are you guys all talking about what your meter says your MPG is? Or what you calculate? At the end of every tank, if I drive as smooth as I can, my meter says 24.5ish. I usually do it out on my phone and its really around 21.5ish.
Just curious which numbers we are all refering to.

I usually get around 20 to 22 mpgs. My last fill up though went waaaaay south. In an attempt to get rid of the pre-detonation problem I'm having I poured in a bottle of Techron injector and fuel system cleaner and drove it hard til I went thru about a 1/4 tank.
At fill up today I had only driven 78.1 miles, I filled up with super unleaded at $2.559 per gal and only got in 8.027 gals. By my calculations thats a sorry 9.729 miles per gal.

When you say "honest 31MPG" are you using the trip computer or calculating it yourself? It's a well known fact that the trip computers on the 5.5 gens are not accurate. They read between 3-4 mpg's higher than reality. Your own calculations are the most accurate.

Now if I could just get more than 1200 miles to a quart of oil it would be perfect.
I get well over that with pure highway driving, but yeah mixed, depending on how much city/hwy, I can see anywhere from 26-32. 100% city, even with my heavy foot, I get 23-24.
I find by not resetting my trip computer every fill up, and running several tanks through it is slightly more accurate. I drive fairly conservative and my computer reads 28 mpg and I am probably getting around 26/27 mpg.
Mine just depends on how I drive. If I take it nice and easy my digital meter will say about 34 mpg upon fill up but actual calculations come back about 32 mpg. If I drive it hard I lose about 5-6 mpg's.
