this may be a dumb question but i been looking through technical service bulletins(TSBs) section and i feel that my 01 max quilifes for a few of these expecailly the P0420 code regarding the three way catalyst function. I have replaced 2 of the 4 02 sensors mainly because they are so expensive i only need to replace the red wire and the blue now (both are dealership parts i believe)if anyone knows where to get those for cheap contact me please i also have replaced main cataltic converter(the middle one most expensive) and i still spit this code at times. so the question is will they reprogram my ECM for free if i can get the code to come up again its been awhile since it has but if i can get a free ECM reprogram im all for it, im not really familiar with how these TSBs work though

 

Well I'm not sure if this is the answer your looking for but about 2 years ago I had to renew my tabs and do an emissions check... I failed the emissions due to the cat so before I paid for repairs I brought the car to Nissan and they told me that anything emissions related was I believe covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles...I think that was the numbers. But either way they fixed the emissions issue for no cost. I don't remeber at this point if they replaced a sensor or the cat but it was free from nissan. Check it out.

to fix this damn o2 sensor problem costed me $450 at the dealer.

Why would the dealer pay to repair a car that's way out of warranty? The factory isn't going to pay them for the work. They're not screwing anyone just by charging for a repair.

A TSB is not a recall. A TSB is there to help the tech diagnose common problems so they don't have to spend hours figuring it out. It doesn't mean they're going to work on your car for free.

 

o2 sensors can be had from oxygensensors.com.

 

The ECM reprogram won't cure the 0420 code. It will come back. Just sayin'.

 

If you go in there and you know you're covered yes it's free...If you show any signs of weakness, lack of knowledge concerning automotive maintenance, no lawyer...you're screwed! LOL Read up on the tsb and check your VIN..you may not fall in the vin affected range! If you do halleluhah too ya!

Sometimes it does, I know for a fact that reprogramming the ECM can fix the P0420

 

Well, I had it done...and re-done...on my '01 and the 0420 came back, within a week. FWIW, you can just live with the code, too. We've had the code since the car was new and it's never manifested into any problems.

 

Agree with everything above. Just change the word "TSB" to "Recall"

 

By the way, many regions in Canada no longer have "dealerships". They have effectively been converted from "dealerships" to "stores". A collective of dealers making this move makes them able to lock prices at MSRP.

 

just keep in mind when members bash dealerships, they are the ones that are truly ignorant of the help that can be gained from looking a bit more positively at the dealership service/ parts staff.

Do you make that claim as an independent consumer or as a former NNA employee? Because if you are asserting that statement as the latter, you have just undermined that assertion.

I have nothing but bad experience with dealers (or stores as they are widely known as now. Here are a couple:

1995 Nissan 240sx SE - Nissan Store attempted to repair EGR solenoid. Took 3 days for the 4 hour repair. They decided to remove the intake manifold to gain more room. Failed to tighten coolant clamp, coolant leaked onto alternator, damaging it. Scratched fender, which they repair. EGR code pops up again in two weeks. Total repair cost for a $70 part: $1000.

2000 Maxima SE - induced countless of swirls on the clear coat and attempted to force me to replace rear brake pads at 40%. I told them I had a pair at home and I didn't want them to replace them. Threatened to void my warranty on the basis that the 40% brake pad would damage the rotor.

2003 M45 - two dealers managed to damage the airbag module and harnsses, tried to bail out by blaming each other. One wanted to charge me $700 for repairing the damage caused by the other dealer, while car was still under factory extended warranty. until I told them I would sue. I contracted Nissan/Infiniti North America in an attempt to resolve the issue. They responded seven months later. Induced a lot of swirls.

2005 G35 Sedan Sport Aero - I asked them to various squeaking noises under the TSB I provided. Failed to do so the first time. I had to bring the car to them again to finally fix one rattling noise. They refused to fix the others on the claim that a 40,000 miles vehicle is not warranted for squeaks and rattles.

None of the dealerships ever have any parts in stock. Even the most common parts such as an oil drain pan bolt!
