just got a new 2000 maxima looking for a cold air intake but not sure where to buy from and ideas?

 

Dont be lazy, search for opinions, theres tons. I know, and I havent been here for that long.

But, if you cant tell by my sig. Injen works fine for me. Alot also have Berk and an Apexi Filter, golden =)

Save yourself future misery........keep the stock one......unless you're out on a track racing/autocrossing. For the daily driver the stock one which has been designed by professional engineers, working for a multi billion dollar company, with access to millions of dollars worth of engine performance/test facilities and equipment, with years of experience and R & D, probably makes for a better choice. Looking at most of the aftermarket intakes I'd venture a guess that most of them don't know what a P engineer is.

 

you deff got to keep the stock one.. I put on a Injen CAI and i seriously have to say i REGERET it... car does not pull like before and the intake start workin after i hit 80mph... seriously man, keep the stock one... good luck

 

short ram will be better for low end, CAI will help for highway speeds.. and you can either find them on the classifieds section here or ebay

 

Outta all the ones I've seen on maximas I like Fujitas the most. meanest sound. Good Performance. And pretty affordable. Injen would be my second choice. Can help you get fujitas, dont have Injen's yet. also got AEMs but never tryed one or heard a review.

 

Do this, it will give you the perf. of the other intakes (sounds really nice too) for free.

...well, you get the point. If improved performance and the delightful growl of an engine under load is "misery", then count me as miserable. Placing unconditional trust in corporations is silly.

The stock air box is there to reduce noise, and protect against water in the intake system. It's not designed for performance.

Start with GAB. It's sloppy, but it's also free and easy.

 

IMO a full CAI is too expensive, short ram to me is more practical i never liked the idea of my filter being so low to the ground and in front of a tire granted a splash shield is there but still not for me. u can get a cheap short ram or full CAI off ebay and cheap. all i have is a MAF adapter and a filter that i put on the MAF tube $35 bucks works perfect for me

do like I did, buy the cheap ebay intake and just use the midpipe and get like either a JWT or Stillen pop-charger to add to it.....still cheap either way.

Im pretty sure the injen was designed by professional engineers, not to mention others... just cuz something is aftermarket doesnt mean it isnt made the car.

I bought injen, wouldnt recommend it if your looking for any power gains... it looks nice and sounds great, thats about it though. From my understanding the short ram intakes are the best way to go. If you buy a filter and adapter off ebay you can make one for like $30-40

It's the same motor as G35 etc. The only thing separating that 5hp 9ftlbs torque is retarded air flow, and retarded timing.

do u really just want a brand name intake??? almost all intake is the samething... if you are set on a brand intake, just go buy the brand intake... (short ram though)

 

Wow that's totally opposite of the truth! The longer intake have better low- mid range punch. The shorter intakes have a better mid-topend punch! Air moves faster thru a short tube than long tube due to resistance!

 

Try an ebay cone and adapter. Works for me until I get some money for a better cone and extension.

An intake is basically (dumbed down) a cone and a tube. Then comes brand names and more money. Try ebay.

 

if you're looking for sound, i find that the longer tube intakes tend to have a deeper growl to them... short rams tend to have more of a higher pitched growl

 

I'll be anticipating some cooler weather so I can dyno this present intake: Aem dry flow cone filter attached to the Oem mid pipe via a Maf adapter -vs- Injen -vs- a 6" bellmouth w/6" cone filter (not JWT either)! This bellmouth setup should move the bellmouth entrance further away from the Maf sensor and allow the sensor even less turbulence then the JWT popcharger while adding a little more lenght( maybe 3-6" more) to your intake, keeping that lowend torque where it needs to be without having to be 36"-39" long like Injen and Place racing which tends to kill your topend power but really gives a hell of a low-midrange wallop! I'll order these pieces ASAP and the bellmouth, filter, etc should be less than $100

Not according to the man. Catts hasn't had those to sell for many years now. If he did, I would have happily bought that over my Racineline FSTB. Not that there's anything wrong with the Racingline, it's just that the Cattman was so cool and unique. You've got a collector's item there.

Actually it's was bought for, and was off my 00 Max, so if you're looking for one, 00 -01 will fit (02-03), you may have to shave down the top of the intake manifold about .040-.100" not really that much material! Also it's superlight titanium...I think it's less than a pound as an assembly.

 

I'm going to go with the Cosmo Racing CAI. Replica of Injen & Fujita w/half the price.

PR is the only intake that has shown power gains throughout the entire powerband and wont kill your low torque on a DE-K. good luck finding one though....Cattman intake (also made by PR) is the same with different badging. Neither have been made in 2-3 years though, so are difficult to find.

Otherwise, GAB or stock are your best alternatives.

Short ram = meh...

Injen = massive fail.

 

If it truly is a replica of Injen, then it probably sucks just as bad.

 

just get a MAF adapter and a cone filter and slap that onto the MAF. It works great for me and a couple friends i know. it won't cost you more than $50. I bought a Spectre adapter from pep boys and drilled the screw holes i needed. the filter cost me $30. i feel a stronger pull right around 3000 rpm, and of course it sounds great. lots of people are suprised to find that the sound is coming from the intake alone. i just have the stock exhaust.

 

or go with a custom made Berk Short Ram replica ... with a BPI Velocity stack and a over sized 6" base dry flow filter.
