Ticking noise, cyl 2

Ok guys, i'm not exactly sure what could be causing this, so i'm hoping you can give me a few ideas.

I had been having a problem with pre-detonation, it was severe. Over the couse of that, it developed a consistent ticking noise from around the number two? cylinder-- one closest to the passenger side front of the car. I replaced the spark plugs which cleared up the pre-detonation wonderfully, but the ticking still remains.

It doesn't matter hot or cold, but under WOT it seems to diminish rather than get louder.

The car seems to idle slightly rough, and if you hold the throttle at anywhere between 1500 and 2000 rpm, it is noticeably rough.

Note the noise is NOT loud. If I have the windows up, I cannot hear it.

Could this be a burned valve? Piston slap? possibly the timing chain?

The ticking is consistent with engine rpm, so the faster the engine turns, the faster the ticking.

Any ideas would be great, this is on the vq35

Could you be low on oil?

It might be helpful to do a compression test. If you had some detonation, there could be some damage in the cylinder. It might give you an idea of whats going on inside the cylinder. Is there any noticeable oil loss or burning?

Performance is great, no hiccups.

I'm not noticing any blue smoke, and the oil level is just fine. That was the first thing I checked.

I suppose we will do a compression leakdown test and see if we can find the culprit.

Not sure what you mean, I have done plenty of WOT pulls till redline, and the noise seems to disappear entirely from what I can tell.
