how many miles after gas light
#3
furthest i have taken it on my 5th gen is about 75 never died or even stuttered. I think i filled it up with 16.7 gallons and i usually get about 26 mpg so i guess that means there are about 3 gallons after the light comes on

My gas light has come on twice over the last two years I've had the car and both times I put gas in it within 5-10 miles. Never taken over 16 gallons so I believe that means there was at least 2.5 gallons of fuel left.

I HAVE A 5.5 and I usually get 60-70KM (25-30Miles) left when the light comes on. I have driven it to the point where it should run out... never does. I think the computer estimate of distance till empty is a conservative one so you can't blame the car if you run out.

5th gen i usually once in a while let the tank go that low on purpose to keep the crap out and when i fill up i usually put 15.5 gallons in there so id say about 2.5 gallons left should be about 70 miles or so

I have a 5.5 and i have pushed it probably 30-40 miles or so after the light comes on and always put at most 16.7 gallons in or so.
I think the light and the dte guage are quite conservative. But why push it???

I have a 2003- gen 5.5...usually anywhere between 30-40 miles left when the light comes on. Now I have usually but 16 and change in after that. Question...is there no air in the tank and out of curiosity-- when the tank is completely full (two clicks)-- is there air in the tank?

im guessing he was just curious for future reference? good thing to know tho

IDK about 5th gens but 5.5 gens will have the light come on when the DTE is 40 miles or less. In fact if your light goes on and then your mileage goes up on the meter then your light will turn off since it thinks you got more than 40 miles left.
I just drove about 40 miles with the light on (first time actually) and the --- just kept on blinking, no stutter though....

After a severe ice or wind (can't remember time of year, we had both) and 1 million customers without power (lol) I left to go out to eat with my friends and ended up in area with no power and blinking 0 miles left. I drove around for at least 20 mins (city) before I found a station with power. I filled it up and still had at least 2.5 gallons left.

I've gone 150 miles on the gas light before and I filled up at 17.5 gallons. Most I've ever gone. LOL, it was pretty scary.
On the trip computer it normally says I have 42 miles left, but that's BS. I go over that every time. I typically fill up 70-80 miles after the light comes on and it's just over 16 gallons.

^^^ not the best practice on any car to constantly drive til the fuel lamp comes on as you are sucking all the sludge and crap from the bottom of the gas tank straight into the engine ... I know once and awhile it may not be helped, but should not become a regular practice at all ...IMO

5.5 gen; 40ish mpg.
I guess is mostly how you drive in general tho... but once the dte light starts blinking I start to the nearest gas station and get around 17 gallon.

I've changed my fuel filter 3 times in 100k miles and it never looked dirty at all. Sludge happens from maintenance neglect. My car is one of the best running 5.5 gens I've heard of. I ran a 14.3@ 98.3 at the track, burn literally no oil, and get between 33 and 36 mpg on the interstate and 23 to 26 mpg all city. I think it's alright.

Not what I observed

I've had the car for 9 months and never even knew it had a light.
I usually fill it when its about a 1/4 tank.
I go by the same station every day (price is right and it's convienient) and I never had trouble with crappy gas from there so I stick with it.
