Car Trouble

So my wife is driving along and all of a sudden she says the cars not drinving. So I yell a bit and tell her to pull over, thinking she's crazy!
So I get in the driver seat and the car is in park and I am able to rev the engine, but when I put it in drive or reverse, I feel it go in gear but when i step on the gas pedal it does'nt go anywhere. It seems like there's a diconnect of some kind.
Appreciate any thoughts. The car is a 2003 SE and we bought it new and have had no issues. Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you able to drive the car? Does it feel like there is a significant power loss? Any CEL?

Go to Autozone and get the codes pulled. Unless you're experiencing some sort of tranny slippage, I'm going to say MAF.

That's what is freaky, it does nothing. I push the gas pedal and it does nothing. Does not move, does not rev the engine, nothing! It's almost like the trottles linkage is disconnected, if it had one.
But again when I put the car in Park, the engine revs like normal.

Gas pedal is electronically controlled, no cables I believe.

Got it back last night from my mechanic and is was the alternator wiring harness that overheated and melted. He replaced the alternator harness and the alternator belt along with the alternator because it was still under warranty for when I had it replaced about a year and a half ago.
He figured while he had it apart and he didn't want to take any chances that the alternator may have been overheated as well. So total cost was $283.00. I guess could have been much worse.

wow I wouldn't have though it to be an alternator wiring harness.
