Sidemarker rewire to blink with signal....

Does anyone have this rewire or know where the write-up is to do it?

Yeah, you're going to need to tap off of the headlight turn signal and rewire a relay from radioshack, can be done for about $10

Make sure you take pics while he's doing it so everyone else will have a write up.

on my 3rd gen i just ran a wire from the front turn signal to the side marker, no relay needed, should work fine on a 5th gen too.

but it depends on how u want it.

like do you want your side marker to only be blinking when the turn signal is on? so unless your turning the marker is at all.

or do you want the marker to be on like it is normally and just blink with the turn signal
(talking about at night time when side markers are lit)

personally i think it would look best if it alternated blinking with the normal turn signal and stayed on as a parking light, but I'm not sure if that can be achieved or not

That's a great idea.

I would think someone here knows how to make that happen. Where's NALC? He's pretty good at details like this.

I like the idea and may do it next weekend.

But you really should keep the marker light on so the trick is to use a relay that is energized by the turn signal.

The markers will be on with the parking lights and when you turn on the turn signal it will energize the relay and break the connection to the markers making them go out.

so when the turn signal is on they will go out and vice versa.

You will need one relay for each side and will need to use some sort of heat shrink to weather seal them.

If I do this next weekend I will take lots of pictures.

If I get a chance tomorrow I will look into putting together a writeup in case someone wants to get the jump on it.

Yes, it can be, hence why you need the relay. I'll see if I can get to the write-up today.

Thought about it - I could do it, however I'm about done with mods for the Maxima (focusing on house). If you have questions, I can chime in.

Those instructions are for the 5th gen, not the 5.5 gen.

The fog-rewire was different between the two models, so I'm guessing there would be a difference here as well.

honestly doubt it.... your just tapping the power for the signal, its probably the same thing. Signal wire = signal wire ??

This is a good idea, is there a way to make it so there like sequential, like when the front light is on, the side is off and vice versa.

I'm assuming its the same if you wanted the rears done as well? Im gonna try and do all four, shouldn't take more than an hour.

FYI anyone with Halos! Wire the Halos along with the side markers so they took will blink when you turn! I noticed the Audis with those sexy leds do this as well when they flip their turn signals.

lol i think if i do that with my halos it might be annoying to other drivers since they are so bright.

All you do is take a piece of wire and splice into the green turn signal wire on each side run it through the white grommet on each side to the side marker. Cut the ground on each plug and attach your wire to the ground. And it will be done.

This is a great way to do it. Frankly I never thought of it. And I do electrical for a living. I was making things too complicated.

You are just using the signals relay to do the job. As long as it can handle the current of an extra bulb everything should be fine.

The only thing using external relays would do different would be that the would only work when your markers are on. Otherwise (during the day) markers would stay off.

I'm going to do it this weekend.

The only thing I would suggest is to use good splices and try to weatherproof them with either heatshrink or some silicone.

And I would actually use a splice on the wire you are cuttung back just to mnake sure you have a good insulated connection. Tape eventually loses it's grip when it gets really hot and get brittle when cold. And you might get a short.

most people are using led's now so extra current should not be a problem

LED? Where? In the side markers, or the turn signals?

In the turn signals you want as bright a light as possible, so that's probably not it. You must mean the 194 wedge bulbs in the side markers.

I bring this up because I tried that and bailed. The LED light wasn't diffuse enough to allow for the side marker to light up uniformly. That, and both white and amber LED's ended up changing the side marker color when lit, to where it no longer matched the turn signal amber.

Knight, I'm interested in knowing what you did here with this LED reference, and your thoughts on why it works for you.

LEDs or not current is probably not an issue. You are only talking about adding a mas of a 15W lightbulb (more than likely only 7W) so it is not a much bigger current draw.

Currently, I'm using these LEDs for the side markers and running lights.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

They fit the front sides easily, but the rear needs coaxing as they're very long. I'd super glue the PCBs together for strength (or the solder connection will probably break).
Also, for the running lights, they're pretty long. I had to push really hard and jam it against the lens. But they work just fine.

Gimme a bit, see if I can get some pics up.

OT I know, sorry haha.
