Getting Hard Idle on '01 Max , Help!!!! Please!!

Hi Guys...

Ever since the service engine soon light came up I've been getting really hard idle. Like in the morning when I start the car of after a little while of not using the car, I notice that when I'm stopped at the light or just in Park, the rpm starts to fluctuate and the car shakes... I notice the code from the service engine soon, was that Bank 1 was running lean. I went to the dealer to day, they reset and reporgrammed it but it still came back. They won't replace my o2 sensor under warranty cuz I have a Cai installed. Do you think that If I just put the money out of my pocket and have them replace the O2 sensor it will solve my hard idle? Please help!! I need to know, gonna head back to them tomorrow morning.

Thanks!!

my idle is real rough the other day it was sittin at 500 rpms.... it sounded like i had some agressive cams..... i have an auto and it sounded like it was about to stall kind of wierd but it doesnt bother me...... i would pay for the o2 sensor if it bugs u that much and you know for sure that it is your problem!

Mines is almost having the same problem. After I start the car idle is at 700-800... Then a few secs later it will start to fluctuate around 500-600rpm... Then when I'm driving like 5 mph the car starts to choke,(as if your driving with no gas left).. Well the diag for the ecu did say that the Bank1 sensor was running lean.. I'm gonna pay for it. Hopefully that fixes it. Anyone else???

What was the actual code pulled? My SES light came on due to a misfire on cyl#4(code P0304). I would have an intermittent rough idle and pinging on acceleration. Dealer ordered ignition coils as per TSB, but they are backordered. See if the coils are your problems as well. Lean condition can be due to the O2 sensor or the coils.

Coil Part # 22448-2y000(3)
Coil Part # 22448-2y005(3)

The error code I get is: P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Sound like the first o2 sensor is bad right?

See if the dealer can actually hook up the Consult and get some live data readings. A bad o2 sensor might cause a lean condition, but the o2 sensor is supposed to just measure the amount of o2 in the exhaust and modify the a/f mixture accordingly. So if the o2 sees a lean condition it should signal the computer to richen the mixture and vice versa. I don't think a bad o2 sensor should cause a driveability problem like a rough idle. Worst thing it would do would cause an over rich condition. There might be something else causing a lean reading on the bank (i.e. misfire, air leak, clogged injector, etc) that a tech should be able to see with the consult. Also the tech can check how quickly the o2 sensor switches voltage and if it is dead or lazy and needs to be changed. That is a better test for the o2 instead of just relying on the trouble code. I have a feeling it is something else besides a bad o2 sensor, but I haven't fixed cars for years and my memory might be fading....

hmm.. the dealer did mention that he checked the voltage and everything looked fine on the sensor. I mean, the car only has 8300 miles on it.. This all happened after I installed the CAI. So there has to be something involved with the Cai. All cables are plugged in. Rings look tight.. Any suggestions??
