It's definitely worth it. You'll gain about 10-15hp.

headers ftw if they are legal where you live. Y pipe is next best if you cant get headers

^ Y pipe is better than headers for 5th gen...headers are better for 5.5 gen

What?

Longer runners on headers make more power than just a Y on stock short manifolds. And equal length downpipe means you get sick sound...especially with a cat-back.

On a 5th gen, the Y replaces the precats so thats where you see *most* of the gains, so if you don't wanna install headers then you wont be missing that much.

not true, a y pipe on 00-01 will give more power than a y pipe on an 02-03 cause the y on the 00-01 removes the precats and doesnt on the 02-03. headers make more power than both.

yea i guess i worded that wrong...meant y pipe would provide better gains on a 5th gen than it would on a 5.5 gen

Get a Warpspeed y-pipe. With that y-pipe the pre cats are removed so you get nice gains and won't have to worry about pre cats ever again. You won't get a CEL either.

im gonna be honest here... i have a cattman y-pipe on my 00 and I really dont notice that much of a gain. I mean when i first put it on, I got nice sound and a better pull but Ive noticed that the ECU/other sensors fixes itself over time and "dumbs" everything back down to factory specs..ie: adjusts fuel and air etc.

Ive driven my friends 00 i30 (stock) and I personally think it drives better than my car. Maybe its the fact that I do have 150k and he has about 80k on the odo. I dunno, someone tell me something I dont know...

I will be removing my Front OEM Fed Spec Manifold, CustomMaxima Y-pipe and test pipe from my 2001 soon. Anyone want to make me a reasonable offer? I also might let my OEM CA spec. manifold go (removed with 20K on them). If serious, PM me.

Wrong forum, but yes I would get one. Makes a huge difference. It was one of the best mods that I have done.

The Y-pipe is a significant improvement, but I now have Cattman headers Y-pipe, and high flow Cat. I no longer need the CustomMaxima.com Y-pipe and front Fed. Exhaust Manifold and OEM Cat. I am also considering keeping the CustomMaxima.com test pipe. Both the Y-pipe and test pipe are hard to find.

I am told that the reason the ricey sound is the test pipe. I now want to get the maximum out of my Maxima at this point.

The ECU doesn't make any adjustments at WOT, which is where the gains of a Y-pipe (or any mods for that matter) are found.

Maybe your variable intake is broken? Or just a tune-up is needed.

fed spec 00 has precats...y-pipe gets rid of them

cali spec 00, all 01-03 has precats...y-pipe does not get rid of them...you need headers for that

for an 00, the y-pipe is the best single performance upgrade avaliable

The 01 CA to Fed mod removes only the front pre-cat and keeps the rear pre-cat which premits the best flow with the addition of the aftermarket y-pipe. It is the best and only configuration without going to headers.

To avoid "check engine" light, the use of an O2 Sim is required. There is already an extra O2 bung in the y-pipe for the other O2 sensor. If someone is serious about purchasing the y-pipe and manifold, I hope their first purchase offer is a good one, a second bid will not be possible.

I've read of a few issues with the Warpspeed on the 5.5. Noisy and banging/clunking to be specific. Anyone with one installed on a 5.5 experience this? From the pics I have seen they do look to be of good quality with a layout that should aid in exhaust flow.

On a 5.5 there is no real gains in adding a y-pipe. In order to get gains, headers need to be installed so that the precats are removed..

I have a 01 AE and the CustomMaxima.com Y-pipe (e.g. resembles the Stilleny-pipe that is no longer available). Because of budget limiitations at the time and known problems with the front manifold, I chose only to replace the front manifold only with intstallation of the y=pipe. If the rear manifold is replaced, the gains would be more, The installation of headers would release/produce the optimium horsepower.
