HELP!!!
HELP!! CAR WON'T START!!
HELP!!! Car started making a ticking sound from under the hood
. I assumed it was just making noise b/c it was close or right at where I need to change the oil. So I changed the oil and filter on Saturday. The ticking didn't get any better or worse. After further thought and concern decided to see if I could pinpoint it. Listened with my ear on a screwdriver to each cylinder. It was coming from the front bank, right cylinder area. When I went to go shut off the engine I noticed the ses light was on. I decided to pull the head off the front bank. Looking for any irregular wear on the lobes of the OHC. Nothing noticeable. Reinstalled the head and coil packs. I took the car to autozone the next day. Got the code pulled. It gave me a P0021--Cam Position Sensor, front bank. Decided it made sense. Removed/replaced the CPS on the front bank, and now the car won't start.
I tried reinstalling the old CPS, and still no joy. Nissan says it could also be the Intake valve timing control sensor. So I go to Autozone and they aren't even showing that sensor in their system. Has anyone ever had this problem??

I dunno. P0021 according to the ESM is the intake valve timing. Here's the possible causes from the ESM:
Harness or connectors
(Intake valve timing control solenoid
valve circuit is open or shorted.)
Intake valve timing control solenoid
valve
Crankshaft position sensor (POS)
Camshaft position sensor (PHASE)
Accumulation of debris to the signal
pick-up portion of the camshaft

I've been having a similar problem with the ticking but every time I'll show my dad he just tells me its fine but my ses light has been on for a good month now. I feel if I take it to Nissan they will change me an arm and a leg to get the problem fixed.
Check the plug for the cam sensor. I was going through similar issues and found out that somehow during my troubleshooting this happened to my plug.
Also you can take that IVT solenoid out and apply 12V to it and it should move 1/4" or so. Mine was sticking and just clicked.
But I dont think the IVT solenoid causes a no start issue, the cam sensor will. If you keep cranking for a while will it eventually start? If so, cam sensor.
