would this pump fit into a 2001 maxima?

it says 1997-1998-1999-2000 and 2001 years but how could that be if they are diffrent generations? did nissan actually use the same fuel pump for all those years?

 

The pump is in the fuel tank. I don't think it matters if it is the same fuel pump as long as it will fit in the same location and deliver the same fuel pressures. I think you are safe to buy this pump.
