Simple question about changing wheels/tires

I'm curious, will rim size/width/whatnots matter if i'm going to change the entire wheel/tire combo altogether?

I know it matters if your wheel doesn't match up with the tire, but if i change both (e.g. from stock to lighter aftermarket wheels) at the same time will it still matter?

Any suggestions on a light 17" wheel/tire combo for the 2k2?

Thanks

SSR GT1's with Michelin Z-rated rubber from the tire rack. Great rubber. If you do that combo, I'm sure you can find someone to buy your stock wheels on this forum.

There are a lot of wheels available in 17" size so you have a wide variety to choose from. Just make sure you get a rim that is at least 7.5" or 8" wide. By going with that width, you will be able to mount a 235 or 245 tire.

Thanks for the tips guys. I do have another question, especially for UMD.

The stock 2k2 is of 255 (whatever that means), will it hurt the cars handling to go lower at 245 or 235?

Thanks.

The stock 2K2 has 255 horsepower in its 3.5L V6...this does not refer to tire size.

The tires are 225/50/17 (SE) or 215/55/17 (GLE) or 215/55/16 (GXE).

stock tire width is 225..... that number refers to the width of the tire in mm.... 235 or 245 will be just fine as long as you go with a 7.5" or 8" wide wheel.

Yes, the original size is 225 width, and YES, it does matter.

If you go TOO WIDE, the wheel will rub on the inside of the wheel well. The tires are designed to be a certain width, and much larger will cause problems.
