Need help/Input-odd sounds and smells
Hi all-been away for a bit but im back now and need some help from the community.
my 02 SE auto started acting a little strange last nite. Drove about 20 minutes no issues..car off for 10 and then started back up and drove on the highway. Started, within a minute or two, to smell some kind of burning like 'i better check my calipers' smell. Checked it out at destination, smell of coolant and odd type of humming that stays with the speed of the engine. Coolant smell near grille/rad/overflow area(and never before).
There is no leaking of any kind and all fluids look good..soooo-wth do i check next?!
Thanks
Brian
ill take some vid and see if the hum can be heard also.

ok. to UPDATE: car now started today with some minor hestiation (kinda sputtered on crank up) and then the hum quickly changed over to a higher pitched whine that still runs with engine speed...its is in the shop as i type.

and once more....here we go: i've confirmed alternator for sure causing the whine[wipes sweat from forehead] and the smell...dunno but i do know the oil cooler return line is rusted out like a **** (and replacement part is en route). $300 to r/r the alternator-ill take it (at least over timing chain tensioners or water pump)
