Another OBX header Question..

Alright so I have been doing a lot of research on the forum and through google but cant find my answer exactly. Sorry if its posted somewhere, which it most likely is but I don't want to purchase the wrong headers.

Want to purchase headers and y pipe for my 2000 Maxima SE

3.5
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-H...ht_2502wt_1167

3.0
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-E...item518d35f81c

I have read that my car has an EGR because it is a 00 compared to the 02-03 where they do not. Will the 3.5's fit my 3.0 engine?

Thanks

Again sorry if this is posted somewhere

bottom line.. the manifold part of the header will bolt up so yes they ''fit'',.. but if you have an EGR, which you do,.. you will need headers with an EGR port, thus the 3.5 ones are worthless to you.. UNLESS you have someone add an EGR bung... those 3.0 ones are def different then the 3.5 ones.. i wouldnt expect the same performance gains.. and they should sound a heck of alot different,..both being due to the unequal length Y pipe...
..maybe it will sound like an STI (not serious)

why OBX didnt produce just the 3.5 version and have an egr bung on all of them,..and have all of them come with the egr capped off is beyond me,.. prob coulda saved a crap load of money on not only production but costs all the way around and it would open their clientel base for one product from 95-03 maximas.. ..meh

sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but what will happen if I dont connect the EGR? Will I just have a check engine because of the EGR not being connected?

Correct...check engine light will pop up. In Illinois you don't want to deal with that...unless you live outside of Cook County.

I dont have emissions or anything related. So would it be fair to say, if I purchased the 3.5 I wouldnt have any issues other than a check engine?
Sound would be better?

Thanks again

If I recall correctly, the 3.5 version of the OBX headers and y-pipe are equal length (much better sounding) end the 3.0 version is not, is that correct?

I too have this dilemma with my 4th gen. It would be nice to go equal length, but I can't afford to lose my EGR. I wonder how hard it would be for an exhaust shop to put an EGR bung in the 3.5 header?

I would ask and see what they can do for you.

i;d go threw the hastle of having a shop put one in for you, it makes hella difference. And you are correct. The 3.0 do NOT have a equal length Y pipe. The 3.5's do.

The sound of the 3.0 unequal length y makes a HUGE difference from the equal 3.5

Well it obviously depends on the rest of the exhaust setup.

You would wanna get a bigger resonator if you were looking to compensate for the sound of an unequal length downpipe. And possibly stick with the stock muffler.

Also it sounded different before he got his ebay catback. When he had his main cat still on, and res, and cattman replica exhaust. Sounds good to some, good at wot. Idle it's too loud imo.

Doesn't matter though, he's purchased his headers. Only advice now, gl with the instal. Prepare to use almost every curse word in the english dictionary. And have patience

Yeah, but it's still a matter of opinion. I find a difference but I guess most don't. Either way no point in beating a dead horse. He's ordered obx. Good choice imo. Gl, You WILL need it. take your time and make sure to do it all right the first time, it's never fun to have to take crap back off when you realized you forgot something small. And don't forget to get creative when doing the instal, it'll keep yourself busy.

P.s. Make sure no guns in site

With these headers (obx 3.5) how many O2 simulators will I need?

Again not to concerned with the SES light just dont want to be running extremely rich or lean or to have some random holes open.

How many and which kind (dual or single)?

That is exactly my question. I found the How To: thread on installation

But WILL I need to have an EGR put in in-order for the car to run correctly?
I didnt think so, but if anyone knows..

i dont see how its hard to understand... headers made for a 4th gen fits 95-03. 95-00 has egr's on them so if u dont have one on the headers then get it put in, 01-03 doesnt have EGR so if u have the port on the headers then plug it... like misty said, there is threads all over the forums about headers... pimping02max had a nice write up

I understand that. But if you have an EGR what happens if you just dont plug it in? (besides a SES light)

I've been running with disabled EGR on my 2001 Intake manifold swapped VQ30DE. Only thing I have noticed is worse fuel economy, and there is no way I will pass emissions with the EGR disconnected.

So I have another question about the install..
I got the y pipe off and the front header. I see that I need to take the upper intake manifold off. I see that there is a write up for the 4th gen http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...im-w-pics.html .. is that basically the same thing for my 5th gen?

I have these links as far as write ups
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...s-weekend.html
http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=215223
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...n-writeup.html

Anything eles I should know?
