shifting issues - no reverse on a decline

Hey hey guys, had an odd thing happen to day, and was hoping you all might be able to shed some light. I was cruising along, when I came to a detour. Long story short, the road was closed, and I needed to turn around. At this point, the road was at a slight decline, so if I were in neutral, I would roll forward. So I attempted to back up, but I could not for the life of me get it into reverse; it would only shift into 6th. I tried for a good 5 minutes or so, and eventually resorted to pushing the car, where I was then able to just drive away.

After this, I experimented a bit, and discovered that I could get the car into reverse on level ground, and also into gear on an incline. And for a second time, I was unable to shift into reverse when on a decline. I threw this by my brother-in-law, and he said it could be the synchros. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas or thoughts, and possibly what type of repair I'm looking at? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

check the hitch pin where the cable hooks to the transmission control assy. I've had mine break once or twice and it makes it a PITA to shift into reverse

Are you talking about at the tranny or at the shifter.

Also, which cable?

I did the STS Mod a few weeks back and now it's a real ***** to get in reverse. So much so that I might go back to the original.

Thanks.

Not to trying to hijack your thread but I cannot post threads yet.

I need advice please!

My 2001 max. 20th AE won't go into gear. On the way to the gym it was hard to get it into gear and harder when I had to move it in the morning. It will not go into any gear almost at all. My friend came over to look at it and there was No fluid in the master cylinder....we put some in but we were not sure how to bleed the clutch. Could not find the right pipe, does anyone know where it is for this model?

the hitch pin at the transmission end, where the two cables connect to the controller. You did the freebie STS?

the clutch bleed nipple is on the drivers side close to the engine, and near the front of the car. I'll see if I can take a pic later

Yeah, the freebie STS.

I also put in the ES bushings.

It's now a real b***ch to get her into reverse.

I am almost tempted to switch it back.

So if this pin is the culprit I'd be extremely grateful if you can help me out.
