snow tires, too tiny??

your speedo is going to be waaayyyy off with those. If you need snow tires, look into getting 15" or 16" steel rims with a tire that is 205 or 215 width...

If you are going from a stock 225/50 17 to those, I only get a 3%...

speedo error. 60 MPH is actually 58.2 MPH...if anything, this builds in a 'traffic ticket buffer' and as a long time resident of the Mid-West until moving to Texas, 3% or so won't mean squat when a posted area of 55 MPH has traffic only doing 30 due to snow, ice, sleet, other cars, etc.
