OH SH*T keys stuck in ignition...

So it has been giving me trouble going into reverse, I would have to open and close the door or push down the little lever lock to get it to go into reverse. So it is in park and it will turn off, but the key will not turn all the way back into final position and come out. HELP

Strange behavior... If it was only the problem of moving the gear selector out of P, I would've said the brake light switch went kaput. But with the key not going all the way back to the Off position, it looks as if the car is not "reading" that it is in Park. I'm not sure if there is any relation with the brake light switch, but you might want to check if your brake lights are working when you depress the brake pedal. If they aren't, then you definitely need a new brake light switch.

Try turning the steering wheel to both sides to take the key out.

I sometimes have that problem when the gear selector isn't fully in P. The fix: turn key back to ON and go to R then fully to P, turn key to OFF, remove key. But if you're having problems getting into reverse, don't know if that'll do it for you.

i had that problem with my ponticrap grand am.. it would happen randomly.. i had to either fiddle with the key until it decided to come out, or i would just take the ignition cluster apart to move a pin in there that would get stuck

funny story: this one time it happened when i was on a date, and i was PISSED!!!! we pulled up to the movie theater parking lot, and it got STUCK!! oh man, i was heated.. i was trying for damn near an hour to get the damn key out of the ignition.. took the ignition cluster apart and all that.. so she said "let me try..." she gives it one turn, and the damn thing comes out! lol.. i looked at her like she was a freakin magician.. she said "i guess it just took a woman's touch.." lol.. so if all else fails, try getting a woman to do it

My car likes to pretend it is out of gas

OP, maybe try moving the shifter to 1 then back to P? There have been times when I pull the key out and the accessories are still on. Knock on wood, this hasn't occurred for over a year.

my 3rd gen did that to me this summer, i dont know if its the same for your gen but where you stick the key in on 3rd gens you can pop the ring off the outside and theres a emergency key release you press in with a pen or whatever and it lets out your key, got my key out
