What's the gear ratio/configuration of the 6-speeds?

For the 2002 3.5 6-speed, what's the gear config? Are they 4 under-drive, 2 over-drive? Or 5 under, 1 over?

While I'm axing newbie questions - about how much scratch should I plan on dropping on a short-throw aftermarket and are they an easy DIY installation?

thx

you literally just beat me to it. STS mod has worked for every 5.5 owner and they will all tell you its the same if not better than an aftermarket shifter

your also going to want the Energy Suspension 6 speed bushings.. amazing difference...

Here's a great site with tech specs on all Nissans. It gives you specs, TSBs, recalls, reviews and all sorts of info going back to 2001.

I've got one of the first HP Autoworks short throws that came out about 4 years ago. There are a lot more choices out there now including the "free STS" mod. The install or mod isn't very hard. If you look through the "how to" stickies at the top of the 5th gen forum you'll find the info. It's worth it on these cars.

Search the 5th Gen forum for "STS" in the title.

Here's a good one: http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...-free-sts.html

The picture says it all:

I was looking online the other day for a graph showing Engine RPM vs. Car Speed for an 02/03 maxima with the 6 speed manual transmission and couldn’t find it anywhere so I made one myself.

I made some measurements at various speeds, and on different gears on the road and came up with this graph. I know that the first 4 gears are + / - accurate, but I’m not too sure for 5 and 6. Can anyone confirm?
