differential bearing?

ok so i have searched and found alot of really helpful info but still have a few questions?

i recently noticed an oil spot right at the bottom of the bellhousing and back around the shift rods. so i took it to aamco to get it checked out and the mech told me the passenger axle seal is leaking. and quoted me 130 dollars to fix it. i asked him about the differential bearing and he said the only way to check it is to open it up. so i said thanks but no thanks and left.

now i tried the thing where you try to move around the axle but there isnt alot of room to manuever. but i couldnt get it to move even allitle bit. good sign?

so my question is if there is play how hard should you try to move it to actually feel the play in the bearing? and is 130 a good price for the job?

also i read a statement the pmohr had said in another thread that it is unlikely that in a 5th gen a differential bearing would go. how so?

That is not a bad price. I find it unlikely the bearing is bad. How many miles on the diff?

I doubt it. But he's right, the only way to really tell is to look at it.

You may benefit from a diff. service if you'd like to extend the life of your diff.

And by tranny service you mean just flush and fill with redline. Are there any ill effects with flushing and filling with a high mileage tranny

Only if it's been neglected.
