Possible future interior overhaul. Suggestions?

Hey all,

In light of the interior overhaul Metal Maxima did in his 5th gen a while back, I've started making plans to freshen up the 8-year old interior of my '02. It probably won't happen until the spring as I'm going to need to save up, but I figure I should start planning now.

The only problem is, I can't figure out what two-tone I should go with.

I talked to my mom last night (she's better at this color-matching thing than I am) and she suggested black and grey. Black and red was a second alternative.

I also figured I'd take this chance (when I finally get the money) to wrap the dashboard in leather and have "Maxima" embroidered on the driver's side dashboard. The cloth on the door panels will probably be replaced with leather as well. The "little blocks" pattern is starting to look dated to me.

Any other suggestions or ideas from anyone? This is going inside a white Max, and I want it to be fairly original-looking, so no lime green and blue.

it depends on the style you're going for, if you want to have a "show car" theme, I would def. go for black leather with red insert/stitching, on the other hand, black with gray would be a nice subtle theme.

good luck

My philosophy on this stuff leans towards improving OEM design, rather than replacing or redesigning it. So I'm wary of ideas like wrapping the dash in leather, or embroidering "Maxima" anywhere. (You already know it's a Maxima, and probably don't need constant reminder.)

However, I will say the 2-tone idea of black and gray would compliment the white exterior far better than introducing red. Here's a picture of the G37 black & gray 2-tone interior... very pleasing, IMO.

When I came up with the idea of a red w/black inserts theme, I was aiming for something along the lines of what Nissan did with the Altima SE-R. I'll probably eventually replace the stock steering wheel (it's peeling pretty bad) with a 350z wheel as well...if money allows. And if it's possible? I've heard it is. Can someone enlighten me?

I do like the way that looks. It's subtle, but the contrast is really clean-looking. As far as wrapping the dash in leather, I felt it'd be a more modern/luxurious look than trying to prime/paint the dash. It also needs to be somewhat resilient, especially considering the amount of sun it's going to receive in our Nashville summers. I may can the "Maxima" embroidery idea, though.

^x2 I would suggest the OEM tone color matching too.

I didn't have a choice when it came to redoing the interior (or at least the center stack). i bought the nav system from an I35 with the tan interior and it didnt match. Decided to do the whole center stack in metalic silver like the newer Maximas have. I thought about doing more, but I decided I wanted to keep it simple. Besides, it perfectly matches the shifter surround, and I think the silver highlights the center stack nicely and doesnt draw too much attention. I don't know what else I could paint without my car yelling RICER.
