I've seen & installed them. Why do you need the sizing? They fit under the hood.

Wow, sorry, I completely misread your thread. I thought you were talking about the modules at the coilovers themselves.

The control unit is about 3 inches wide, about 3/4" thick, and about 3-4 inches deep. To be honest, the fitment might be tight/barely doable in the ashtray.

Is the EDFC Model# unique for the 2001 Maxima?

I thought there was not enough clearance between the strut towers and the hood.

Comments? Pictures? Recommendations?

Not being too much money compared to the over all CO cost. Its seems like the only way to go if you have TEIN SS.

Man I know this an old thread but I was hoping to see some pics because this is going to be my next mod. My Eibach springs and Tokico blue struts not hard enough since I added the turbo. Its expensive though...I priced both the tien SS $1300 and EDFC $450. So $1750-$1800.....then someone to install dont now how much that will be. Expensive but worth it from all the reviews I have read.

Teins - definitely worth it.
EDFC - eh, not as much. A nice feature but not necessary.

Pretty sure you're going to find the Tein setup is softer than your Eibach's and Blues, not harder... and yet providing much better handling. merovi replaced OEM springs and (new) Blues in my old Maxima for a set of (used) Tein SS coilovers. It's lowered exactly to where he wants it, and the handling is so-o-o much better. Granted, he also has a RSB, FSTB, RSTB and a whole collection of solid poly bushings... but the CO's are really what makes the difference.

I don't personally think the EDFC is worth it, for two reasons. One is that the controls are already very accessible in both the front and rear, assuming you cut flaps in your trunk lining; (velcro, FTW!) And two, once you figure out where you want the settings, you're not going to change it. I mean, realistically speaking, there's a setting that you will tune into and keep it.

All that said, I actually do recommend that you get the EDFC, because it's a toy that you'll enjoy, if not in actual productive use, then at least as a point of discussion and demonstration.

EDFC is a waste of money. If they were nicer looking, I'd say you can buy it for the bling factor, but they're intrusive and ugly, so why bother?

You'll also never use it, as Rochester said.

On Shocks that are designed for racing, different spring rates, etc, you might use it more, but not on the SS or SA model line. With these, you find the 'sweet spot' and you leave it alone, it works for track and road use. Tighter/looser won't make you faster.

One thing I've learnt that surprised me, was that softer settings can be better for handling. You don't have to deal with hard shocks to have good handling. That is a function of spring rate. Roughly speaking, You just want the shock to 'match' the spring rate. So if your springs are a low rate (soft) like the SS or SA are, you can run the shocks fairly soft also (8-12 clicks from full-tight) and that will be best for street & track.

And as said, there is no way this will ever fit in your ashtray.

It's one thing if it was $100-200, but these average $300+ used, and $500+ new, plus install work.

Nice.

I have to admit, that little black box looks kind of dumb. Well, less dumb here in this picture with the adjustable strut mounts. But I'm sure it's nothing a fancy sticker couldn't jazz up. LOL

I think the newer EDFC boxes are smaller and less intrusive. It doesnt matter because Im putting it in the glove box with my Haltech. We'll see how it goes....the 350z guys love the EDFC. Im also getting stiffer motor mounts from red lion for my passenger and transmission side. Also going to get the NWP Torque link too. AND getting rid of my 245/40 Federal 595SS and getting 255/40 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. All that should make a HUGE difference in handling.

Honestly I would go with Fortune Auto coilovers. I had the tein ss and they were more on the comfy side.

I take 350z 'guys' opinions with a grain of salt. The majority of them have more money than brains with modding the cars it seems.

I'd love it too if I didn't care about the cost of it and if it actually works or not.
It's expensive and pointless, but there's lots of awesome things in this world that are both expensive and pointless that I still want/like, so I guess it's really about whether it's worth it to YOU.

I'd put the money toward sway bars or something that is actually useful, but that's just me. If I really didn't mind tossing the money away I'd buy it just to have it also, AS well as buying the sway's, etc.

These arent Tein SS. These are the newer Tein SA that replace the Tein SS. They say they can be adjusted 200% stiffer than the SS. Well see. I'm not building a rally car and its my daily so I dont want it to be brutal. I can deal with comfy as long as its not Mushy.

I have just about every suspension mod that you can have on a maxima, except the bump steer kit and coilovers.

^ I know Just speaking generally bromine

Interesting to know that about the 200% stiffer, sounds like a male-enhancement ad.

But really, I'm excited to hear reviews, I thought they were just mirroring the SS and changing marketing/name more than anything. Nice to hear this will truly be something a bit different.

Yeah they are the "evolution" of the SS coilovers says the website. They supposedly have larger diameter pistons for the front and rear and a new technology that allows 200% more dampening force change over the 16 way adjustment than the older SS coilovers.

I think I remember reading that they're designed to better handle wear and weather than the SS line.

And of course you're getting the EDFC. I don't know why you pretended otherwise.

Hey Maxfiyah do you have the Tein SA or the Tein SS? How you like the ride? Do you notice a difference on full soft vs full hard? What setting you normally drive around on?

i have the ss and i don't feel much of a difference. not worth the 450 bucks but i got it with the car so i have no complaints and i ussually leave it off but when i turn it on i like to ride +16 and sometimes 0 to be honest i dont know where it rides when the edfc control unit is turned off i cant tell the diff

I'm cant wait to get mine installed and see if I can tell the difference. Tein claims the SAs are totally different not just re-badged SS coilovers.

spring rates are the same as the older SS model 7 kg front 6 kg rear. I had to upgrade the SS springs because they were too soft after riding on the eibach/tokico combo. Thats 392/336 for the non Canadians.
I replaced the rear with 8kg springs, I bought 9kg for the front but haven't put them on yet

I currently have the Eibacn/Tokico combo as well. Where you buy upgraded springs for the Teins at? You notice a big difference with the stiffer ones in the back even though you have not done the fronts yet?
