Will I make it home...
The BRAKE and BATTERY (charge) lights came on last nite and i drove for 2 miles.. This morning the lights are still on and i drove to my office in long island; about a 30 mile drive.
I therefore have a return trip of 30 miles to my home.. will I make it?
the battery is only 4 months old.

i once drove for 4 months+ with my brake and battery light on before i got stranded not to mention with a old battery and i got a jump and still made it home in time to change it. so i doubt it. but dont wait as long as me (Iwasbroke). oh and this was in my 4th gen. idont think that makes a difference though

I know that combinatioin of lights means it is the alternator ( original with 147K on it). I have AAA assistance so I am thinking of having them come to my office before I leave and have them jump it to be safe...hopefully this will be enough to get me home

If you have cables you could use a coworkers car to charge it for about 1/2 hour to an hour. That would pretty much guarantee you would make it to AutoZone and home.
Just start the other car and connect the cables like you were going to jump yours off. Leave your car off and let the other one idle.

Jumping it won't do anything for you unless they're willing to hang out for a while and charge it.

I also had my battery (negative) disconneted all this time and when i connected it (before the 15 minute charge) the car started right up.. hope this is a good sign and i have enough to make it home when i leave at 4pm. I again have the battery disconnected until i leave in a few hours.

I drove 32 miles one way after the crank pulley in my 626 blew apart, leaving no bottom pulley for the alternator and a/c. Turned everything in the car off, including the fan and headed home. Battery still had 11 volts and started when I got home. I put a charger on it and the next morning made it to the parts store and back.

Well..... later that afternoon I started the car with no issues and 32 miles later made it home. Disconnected the battery overnight and in the morning had the original alternator, with over 147K on it, changed.
