+1

what they'll prolly do is get matching doors, MAYBE do a light sanding to get through the factory clear coat, touch-up all the chips and scratches on the car, and a clear. in the end they're pocketing a nice chunk o' change at a smaller cost to them.

EDIT: at least, that's how i'd do it if i were to refinish my car. i'm not cheap, i'm poor. there's a difference.

Wow that chick really f--ked up your car. Definitely doesn't look cheap.

But as others have mentioned, at least the lady was honest. You're pretty lucky in that respect. Where I live most people would have just hit and run, no note left.

Really? You think that cheap? There's also some dents and body damage.

From the pictures at least 2 doors need to be sanded and repainted. Fixing all that has to be more than $300.

You obviously have no concept of what goes into body work like this. There is no way that the price for damage with this severity would be any less than around 1,000. Being that the doors were deemed unrepairable I think that the quote he got, although expensive, is an appropriate price. When it comes to bodywork it is never a good idea to cheap out, and settle for work that wont be quality. I really don't know how you begin to figure $300 for all that damage Even if they somehow only had to repaint the doors, and do proper blending, it would still be well over 500.

Either way goodluck, and post pics of that freshly painted car

Well today someone came out from her insurance company to look at the car and he gave me an estimate which came in about a few hundred short of what i need to have the shop i choose to do the work. It came short because he thinks the doors can be fixed but i had 4 shops tell me its better to get new one cause those doors with that damage wont come out right. I'm gonna take the estimate to the shop tomorrow and let them talk to this guy.

You can have your insurance negotiate with theirs if you need. You might even be able to turn it in on your insurance, they pay for the repairs, then your agency "subligates" to her insurance agency (your agency makes her agency pay what they are out).

Of course, even your agency would likely recommend you trying to negotiate it out first with her company. In my experience, if you take the car to one of her agency's "shops"....which are typically professional shops around town, then if you are unhappy with the result, they MUST redo it. Let me say this....that has been my experience with State Farm and AllState when you go to one of "their" places. In my small town, both these agency's use top notch places and have always given me a choice of 4-5 to choose from. I don't know who she is insured through, so this may not be an option for you. In any case, you can always negotiate, especially if you have the estimates in hand.

I'd get some goof off to take off the red paint or something stronger and pocket the rest! Even insurance cuts you a check so either way you can pocket. No offense but I've never liked gold max's :X

Here's what you need to do..

1) Call her insurance company. Depending on who the company is, they will either inspect the vehicle, or send you to a shop to have it inspected & estimated.
2) The repair shop is of your choice. Once the appraisal is written, take the estimate to the shop of your choice. They will set-up a rental vehicle for you while the shop is in for repairs.

Don't play the game of, I have an insurance check for $2,500, and I am going to have it fixed at the $1900 shop (pocket the difference). This always backfires, and you will get a sub-standard repair.

it looks like two new door skins to me. 1200-1500 range in my experience. you need to make sure that you pick your bodyshop and have them talk to the insurance company, theyll make sure its all paid for properly

Damn sorry to hear about what happened to your car. Like others I agree that you shouldn't try to get more money from her than what you're gonna get charged. I believe in Karma also...and I know for sure what you do will catch up to you....I also think it was nice that she left a note but at the same time she could have done that because someone saw her damage your car or theres also a chance she left a note because she is an honest person...in any event just make sure your baby gets fixed and GL with everything.

Glad it all worked out! Sounds like you picked a good repair facility to have it fixed. That always makes a difference.

That seems really reasonable, (but it was your buddy that did the work wasn't it?) If I could get my car repainted for $700-$800, I think I'd do it and make her look like new again. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in the autobody business.

Strength in numbers lol.

Have you seen the girl that backed into you lately? Did she see the new paint job? (or asked you anything about it for that matter?)

if everything you say is true...that lady is a complete idiot!

if she has insurance...why wudnt she just turn it over to the insurance company and have them pay for it in the first place instead of playing games????

the damage on your car looks to be around 1000-1200 dollars if not more.

this lady wud rather fork out that kind of money rather than have her auto insurance rates go up an additional $20 more a month and keep the money in her pocket!

some people man.....some people

(oh and by the way...im an insurance agent) lol

Well when i spoke to her on the phone for the first time she said she had never been through anything like that so she didn't know what to do.

Same thing happened to Maxine(My Maxima) was at work one night, came out the next morning and theres a note on my door. Dude backed into my car. I walked around the car looking for damage but didn't see anything until i looked down. A nice Deep scratch in the middle of my door. Got estimates. He gave me the money to fix it but since i need to get the hood and bumper painted as well decided to wait until i have enough to get the whole car painted. Thank God He was honest though because his car barely had a scratch on it. I would have never know who did it.
