Clicking noise after transmission fluid change
Clicking noise after transmission fluid change
Ok tranny experts, I have a question about a clicking noise that I am hearing from the driver’s side. I first heard this noise a couple of weeks ago after a changed the transmission fluid (RedlineMT-90 GL-4). I did some research and found a posting from 2003 on a 4th gen 5-speed that had a similar problem. This person had to have the bearings, input (?) and differential replaced. Just curious if this sounds like a problem I might be experiencing.
A little back ground on the noise. It is most prominent in 1st and a little in 2nd gear under normal straight line acceleration. The noise goes away when I engage the clutch. I have not noticed any change in the clicking sound when turning in either direction, so I do not believe this is related to drive shafts. Like I mentioned, I just changed the fluid and the sound started, any connection? I have checked the level and it is fine (I put in just under 3 quarts of fluid per the directions on shift_ice’s website). Now he mentions that there is a break-in period with the fluid, can this be the problem, transmission and all of its parts simply getting used to the new fluid? I’m just concerned about this noise.
Mileage on the car 89,400.
Thanks for all your help!

OK, just went to took a closer listen to the car and I can hear a low-pitched click that sounds like is coming from an area above the tranny on the driver's side. I really didn't hear anything from the EVAP solenoid, but then again with all the noise in the engine, it could be that. I will look into it.
On a side note that might point to the EVAP, I have been having problems with vacuum leaks over the last year and I do have an SES light related to high idle. Related or unrelated?
