Question.....So if I grab one of these off ebay, I can just take it to the dealer and have the blank key thats on there and have it cut? My friend told me that they cut your original key off and somehow drill a hole through it and use that on it......doesnt sound right....

yes it will work(get the one for the 00/01)...not sure what window feature you're referring to though

yes, be sure the key has a chip and the fob has the internals (unless you have your own to swap over)

There is a place near the Jershey shore that sells the complete key with full programming for a little over $100.

-I'm not sure but I believe its the unlock button you hold down on the 5.5's and it rolls down the windows...

So, the handle off my OEM key broke. I went on eBay and I bought a new Transponder Nissan Key but now, I heard that it's going to be expensive to get it made because it has to be programmed to the computer or some BS, is this true? If so, any estimates of how much this little scheme is worth? Thanks =)

The handle broke? Like the part that clips to the keychain? What kind of key did you buy? I'm not sure how the '00-'01 keys look, but I bought a flip-key that had the same 4-button layout as my oem fob so that I was able to move the circuit board from the old fob to the new one and it worked perfectly with no need to reprogram.

Yeah, that part. It's very annoying and ghetto that I have to tape the key to my keychain so I won't lose my key.

This is the Uncut key I bought from eBay for about $13

and, here's the OEM Nissan key

Oh, of your actual key. Is there anyway you can put the transponder chip from your old key into your new one?

When I first got my 5th gen the ring on the key was broken too. I had to get another key made and use the original as a spare. It cost around $2-300 IIRC.
I believe they have to program the key to the car which is where all the extra cost comes in. Both keys have a little blue chip towards the bottom of the black part of the key. I'm assuming this is the "chip" for the key. If I were to get one of these flip keys would the "chip" from the dealer keys have to be swapped over or would just the internals from the fob need to switched?

In order for no programming, you need to transfer the chip and both fob internals into the flip-key.

Bought this, and thought I'd share. $12.95 shipped, took a week or two to arrive, but well worth it.

- Swapped over keyfob buttons and battery housing (remember the back plate)
- Got key blank cut at Home Depot for free. If they are unsure of what cartridge to use, have them find out based on their Nissan blanks.
- Cut existing key open and installed chip into new housing.

BAM.
