Your cel light will be on, the car will be sluggish and the engine rpm's are limited to about 2500.

All the above is happening! I drove it to work and I could not get it to go any faster than 45 mph (except when going downhill). If I press the gas pedal the least little bit it spits back and stutters. CEL is on as well so I am going to call Dave B. today. I saw a MAF on Ebay but I do not know if it is OEM or aftermarket.
I got the MAF service bulletin that says put in a new NISSAN air filter not aftermarket? Is there an truth to a Nissan filter being better than a aftermarket?

^^If the price difference isn't too much you really can't beat OEM quality.

Price depnds on whether you have a 5th gen or a 5.5 gen. 5th gen OEM MAF is around $100.00. 5.5 gen MAF is more expensive because the inlet air thermistor is built into it (Its a separate sensor on the 5th gens).

There's differing opinions on at the org whether to reflash the ECM or not. If you get it flahsed, expect to pay 1/2 to 1 hour's labor.

Nothin beats new OEM. Got rid of my problems. Some people say to have it re-programmed by the dealer, but I did not. Just wait and see what happens after you put it in.

How is OEM around $100? I just checked the dealer, it was $300, autozone had them for $230.

I got my MAF, P/N 22680-2Y001, from Courtesy Nissan for 118.90, delivered. (could probably get better price from Dave B) The MAF for the '00 and '01 Maximas costs less because it does not have the air flow thermistor integrated in it like the "02 & '03 Maximas do. (see my earlier post in this thread)

I also got my ECU reflashed after I installed the MAF and the car now runs like new.

Hmmm. Don't know why. Not even sure if the one I used will work for your I30 (although it should). Here's link to the 2Y001 unit at Courtesy (I see price has dropped!) http://www.courtesyparts.com/mass-ai...-p-280270.html

Just to be sure, It may be helpful to check with Dave B before ordering anything.

Re:"the inlet air thermistor is built into it (Its a separate sensor on the 5th gens).

My Maxima was manufactured 2/1 and has engine VQ30 (DE) so I think I need the less expensive MAF without the thermistor built in. Where is the separate sensor on the 5th gen located?

5th gen inlet air thermistor is located on the air snorkel upstream from the air filter box.

VROOOOM!!!

MAF sensor arrived via FEDEX at 9am this morning. I repalced my air filter and such Friday and parked the car for the weekend. I disconnected my battery Sunday night so the ecu would completely power down.
Installed the MAF sensor and cranked my baby and after letting it warm up good I tore the road up! My Max is BACK! Shifts are great no hesitations or anything feels like a brand new car! Thanks to the guys on the ORG. for any and all advice given! David Burnette is the man! If you need a MAF do not mess with anyone else!
