What do you mean by the o2 sensor comment? Let me know what I'm getting into.
The O2 sensor locations may not line up 100% with the factory O2 sensor wire lengths. The primaries will probably go in without issue, the secondary sensors may require you to extend the O2 sensor wire harness.

For reference, I ran the VQ35 headers on a VQ30 engine without a problem.

You got it. That Y section is designed for cars with that "engine cradle" setup that the 6th gens and v6 altimas have.

So from my understanding, on a 5th gen Maxima you can use exhaust systems and headers from as far back as the 4th gen?

For example:

Anything is better than the stock units, and some of us don't have 700 dollars to go drop on some super name brand headers. I'll sacrifice 8whp for a few hundred dollars. I'll either get the OBX or Megan Racing headers. All of the Megan Racing products that I've gotten for my Honda's were built with great quality and gave me a good performance jump for the money that I paid for them.

As for exhaust, I feel the same way. I'll either make my own 2.5" setup or get some not-super-name brand exhaust with good quality even if I have to sacrifice what. . . . again maybe 8whp over some 800 buck exhaust?

I was told that the way cattman headers are set up it prevents the 02 sensors from setting off a ses light.

Sorry to drag this up, I didn't think it would be neccessary for me to make a new thread on HEADERS if we're already discussing it here. I'm sorry for newbie question I'm about to ask aswell;

I have a 4th gen with a swapped 3.5 and the car is currently N/A, the car already has cattman headers.

My 1st question is, is there any possible gains if I change out the y-pipe with a larger 3" y-pipe?

2nd question: if so..... Can I use any aftermarket brand y-pipe or do I need to get a cattman y-pipe to match up with the cattman headers?

3rd and final question. Am I better off getting a 3" cutout if the following setup mentioned above works (headers w/ 3" ypipe) or will the remaning 2.5" straight exhaust suffice for sufficent N/A power?

Again guys I'm sorry for the noob questions, I searched and searched, but never really found a clear answer. Flame me and tear me a new if you want... But I just had to ask.

Honestly there are no answers to your questions yet because nobody has a 3" Y-pipe except me, as far as I know. Cattman, OBX, ebay, all of those are 2.5" Y-pipes.

A 3" cutout would certainly be better than a full 2.5" exhaust... lol. I don't see how you can make that comparison without coming to that conclusion on your own. If you want your exhaust to "suffice" for N/A, just go with 2.5" everything and leave it at that.

well you see I ask because I have a 3" y-pipe I picked up from another org member sometime back. I'm wasn't sure if it would be a wise decision to swap. I'm sorry i'm not on top of my maxima moddin game... but i'd rather ask than not ask at all.

Is it a direct bolt on to the Cattman headers? If so swap it out and see how you like it or run some test on it b4 and after. Flowmaster does offer a 3" ypipe in which you can modify to fit with a really good muffler shop or yourself if you're well equipped and skilled...

here's one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FLOWM...D/370331787291

Same part different price(brand new)

That is the exact Y-section used for my 3" Y-pipe.

Oh yeah it's all mandrel bent. I have it taken off at the moment because it needs to be modded to fit with my double resonator setup.
