What does that even mean?

Anyways more details are needed but it sounds like a bad MAF.

Details like...

SES light?
Codes?
mileage?

I don't know what you are saying either but my first guess would be a dirty throttle body. Since it sounds from your post you really don't know a lot about cars, I'd have a mechanic clean the throttle body, should be $40-50. Fixed my low idle problem.

I really believe the OP simply has a typo, "sometimes it gets so low to the point where it almost wants to turn on"

He more than likely meant to type "sometimes it gets so low to the point where it almost wants to turn off" meaning it just about stalls. If there are no CEL/SES lights on you may just need to perform an idle relearn. I have an automatic and mine idles reasonably low when it has reach operating temperature. My is around 500-600 rpm but has never displayed any symptoms of stalling so I pay it no mind.

Try searching for threads on "How to perform and Idle relearn" and see if that helps you out.

SES? might have been dirty injectors or bad plugs

First you need to perform the Accelerator Pedal Released Position and Throttle Valve Closed Position learning is completed. Then you perform the Idle Air Volume Learning.

Someone cleaned my 2002 maxima's throttle body and I got a MIL for Idle RPM too high, and was pulling my hair out. Took the car to a Nissan dealer who wanted $1,600 for a new throttle body + labor. Then they said I was getting TPS failure codes also. So I picked up a used throttle body from the org and the TPS codes went away. I even got the Idle Air Volume learning done but it would reset after turning off the engine.

Finally the stealer ran the Idle Air Volume learning with CONSULT II and took $40 from me. This was AFTER I dropped $400 for the used throttle body.

Fuel delivery could also cause the low idle RPM to the point of the engine wanting to stall. This can include the fuel pump, filter, injectors.. but try the simple low cost things first.

did you try cleaning the throttle body? or touch the valve befor? that could cause it. if you disconnect the battery for 36 hours it resests everything. i had the same idle problem disconected the battery and it fixed it self. if not i have a throttle body for sale. PM me if you need

@914Max914

If you are asking me, no I no longer need a throttle body. Unless you're asking the original poster.

This was my problem. I went to firestone and had them do a fuel system cleaning and it made a big difference. It solved the low idle problem, but I think there is still room for improvement. There still seems to be a small delay when I hit the gas. My max has over 95k miles on it, do you think throttle body cleaning would do the trick or was that done with the cleaning at Firestone?

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

sounds like a bad O2 sensor to me.
mine used to do that.
buy some seafoam from local auto parts store and run it thru your gas and oil for about 30 min, should fix the problem.
