I will always miss how quiet it was, the technology and gadgets, and it's stunning looks.

I'm sure once I get a little more income I will definitely buy another TL .. it would definitely be in the 6MT considering the 5ATs are a nightmare in terms of gearing.

But, I'm sure I will love the Maxima .. VQ motors are extremely torquey .. something the J Series motors don't have with minor bolt ons .
How quick was your TL? Did you ever take it to the track or have it dyno'ed? Torque steer had to be a major issue I assume. I wonder how a bolt-on TL would do against a lightly modded 5.5 Max.

My friends 2008 TL can't keep up with my 02 max auto. TL'S are pretty heavy cuz of the lux brand.

Yea, I agree that they are pretty heavy. I think around 3500lbs and only 233 lb-ft torque. And I think only the 6speed manual ones get the brembos and LSD. Also, the power to weight ratio is in favor of the Max. But I wonder how a modded full bolt on TL would do against a lightly modded 5.5 Max. Maybe the OP ran into a few when he still had the Ac.

Sorry for the resurrection, didn't see the replies.

The 5ATs have horrendous gearing and they're much heavier than the 6MTs.

A fully bolted 5AT (minus supercharger) probably runs 14.3 / 14.4 in the 1/4 .. really depends on your 60'.

My TL could barely pull stock 5AT TL Type-S .. so it was decently quick ..

Honestly, the 6MT TL is a whole other another animal. The 6MT is lighter shorter gears, and puts down a lot more power than the AT. I couple people on AcuraZine have pulled 14-14.2 in the 1/4 on a stock car. I honestly believe the 5.5G Maximas are just faster in general, they respond so much better to mods and they're a hell of a lot lighter .. only makes a good combination.

The 5.5G 6MTs are NO joke though, wow.

Thanks man, I plan on selling it as soon as I fix it though .. my heart is still with Acura. I plan on picking up a 2003 Acura CL-S 6MT .. they aren't exactly the greatest looking car in the world .. but I've always loved em sine they came out. Not to mention they're EXTREMELY rare ..3,511 ever produced.

Financially, it was a major upgrade.

I have a car that's completely paid and is just as practical.

Sometimes you have to man up and sell what you love .. but I already have another toy coming this summer.

Car is up and running!

I hired a couple people to put it in for me, only took them one day .

Cost List:

$500 - Car
$375 - Labor
$500 - Transmission / New TC
$155 - New battery, new axle seals, new Transmission oil pan gasket, transmission fluid.
_________________________

= $1530 for a 2000 Nissan Maxima GXE!

I am pretty stoked .. but here are my concerns:

1: When I put my foot down (2/3 of the accelerator petal down), the change from 1st > 2nd is odd.

When it passes 3500RPM, the car makes a slight jutter going forward as if it changed a gear, the revs remain high, then it actually changes gear from 1st to 2nd.

I am going to drive it another 100 miles or so and make a decision. It's either:

2003 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L 5MT w/ 94,000 miles (Mechanically sound)

or

2000 Nissan Maxima GXE w/ 184,000 miles (Fresh tranny, engine is strong).

We'll see, wish me luck!

I'm just glad Nissan put a quality drive by wire system in the Maxima, you know, 8 years before Toyota's randomly started to try and kill their drivers[/quote]

I'm unloading the Nissan.

I got a new job and it's going to be about 80 miles a day of commuting until they move facilities.

As much as I want to keep it, I can't.

The transmission seems sloppy, shifts aren't crisp, and that slight hesitation @ 3500RPM has me worried. I need absolute reliability, I'll stick with my little 5MT 4CYL Toyota Tacoma .

The car is tight as a drum, interior is flawless, paint is great, everything works .. I don't think I'll have a hard time getting $3500 / $3750 for the car ..

On an unrelated note, I am about tripling my income and plan on getting a 03 Acura CL-S 6MT .. I shouldn't have a problem getting approved for a loan.

I just wanted to thank everybody on the Maxima boards for the help!

Whatever man, I almost doubled my income last year and I spent half on my '02 what I spent on my Altima 4 years ago.

It doesn't make sense to spend a lot on a car. Spend sweet nothing on a car, DIY all the repairs, and mods are the only real expense. Makes more sense to me.

i wasnt attacking you brother; or anything of the sort, just messing with ya...

i agree that it doesnt make sense to spend alot on a car. i just like to sit back and watch others do it. as you get older your priorities change, even though deep inside your heart you wish you could go back to those days.

tripling your income is a pretty powerfull statement, just like my retired screen name

Haha, I didnt think you were attacking me, its all good
Being a student makes you change to the way I describe is all. I came straight out of high school and got a what I thought was good job almost right off the bat so I didnt go post secondary until 2 years ago. I'm still not working in what I went to school for, but the moral is, gotta be stupid broke, gotta drive crappy cars, and find out it aint so bad!!! Then after living that lifestyle, you end up not being stupid broke again, but you'll never spend a mint on a car ever again

I think spending $5-6k on a car now is my upper budget and I make a lot more money than I used to.

Maybe its because I can fix anything without taking it to a repair shop (resources like hoist, torch, etc.. being the limiting factor there)

Enough rambling...

I am settling for a CL-S because they can be had for under $12,000 and they're pretty reliable (Minus the 3rd gear problem that has plagued Honda). I'd like a cheap car payment with a car that pulls like a freight train, gets decent MPG and still satisfies my love for Acura (Please don't give other suggestions .. I'm already sold )

I used to make minimum wage working 20 hours a week.

I got hired for a big concrete construction place doing IT Work (Desktop Support Technician) .. my starting wages are 16.00 (Full time) with benefits / 401k.

It's going to be night and day from what I was making before ..
