ride quality differences between 4th gen and 5.5gen

a couple questions:

How different is the quality of ride between the 4th gen and 5.5gen?

The reason: My 4th gen was stock other than a FSTB and RSB but the ride was WAY more firm than the 5.5gen i have now. is this to be expected? is there something askew with the suspension of my 5.5gen? did the FSTB and RSB make that much of a difference?

im asking because it feels WAY off and i would expect the ride of my new whip to be stiffer or close to it of the 2 suspension mods i had on the 4th gen. so im trying to deduce if i have something wrong

thanks for the help

The 4th gen OE springs were likely stiffer. The link below doesn't have complete OE rates listed, but if the Eibach rates are correct, the 4th gen like had higher front OE rates requiring higher lowering spring rates.

The 5th gen is also heavier, so that will make the situation worse.

Get stiffer springs, be happy.

so basically to get something close to the OE 4th gen rate i need to get the S techs? why dont they offer higher rates in a less aggressive drop

For the lowering spring market, drop and rate should be related; more lowering = higher rates. No reason to jar the casual enthusiast with high rates for a slight drop.

You could go with a coil-over sleeve system (http://www.ground-control-store.com/...hp/II=70/CA=27) where you can tailor ride height and rate. Alternatively, full coil-over spring/strut/damper systems are available.

thanks for the advice.

ive only ever been told to stay away from the coil over sleeve type set up and true coilovers are expensive.

Most complaints from the coil-over spring systems relates to cheap options with poor sleeve machining, corrosion issues, locking mechanism issues and poor quality springs (mainly the latter). The ground controls use 'real' springs with spring rates very close to advertised values. This is why these are considerable more expensive than the eBay 'kits'.

Good luck.
