Paint problem???

I just ordered a 2002 Maxima SE 6 speed in Grey Lustre. I am getting very concerned about the posts regarding a paint problem. How bad is this problem and has it affected the grey lustre color?

I am seriously thinking about canceling my order. I am not going to spend 30k on a car with messed up paint.

Please respond with sincere comments.

Scott

Keep your paint clean/maintained. Get a 3M clear bra. And dont drive in the WRC. You should be set.

As long as you don't take the car out of the garage (hermetically sealed) you should be fine.

I've noticed it is mainly where I drive. I took the car on a trip to Pa (800 miles round trip) and got little to no damage. However, just one drive to work (120 round trip) through a construction site and I have 5 - 10 new scratches and chips.

I would recommend the 3m clear bra...expensive but probably worth it.

Yeah, get your car laminated!

This problem seems to be affected to the Black more than anything. I take better care of my car than I do myself and thats saying something. If Nissan is using bad paint, no amount of protection or cleaning will help or prevent the decay. The only solution would be to get it repainted. But in my opinion, I wouldnt worry about the grey lustre, and even if something does happen, after we are through with Nissan and our current paint issue, youll be covered shall anything arise.

Paint problems aren't too bad with Gray Lustre. It's the Black that is the worst for paint problems.

I don't think the paint problems are particularly better, but the coats underneath match pretty closely to the top layers, so chips don't show up as well minus the hi-gloss finish.
