Hey guys,
have a question. i ordered a h3 6000k hid kit from hidextra.com. it all came quick and easy to install but i noticed the lights a different colors. one is white and the other has a slight slight tint of blue. from reading i thought 6000k had that very slight blue and 8000 was real blue and 5000 would be pure white. i like the slight slight blue and thats what i want. i just want to know if it is the 6000 with the slight tint or is it and 8000 with a slight tint.

Could it be that hidextra's 6000k are the white and the 8000k are the blueish ones and the same k ratings are different colors from a different store?

please post pics of the 5000k,6000k and 8000k (especially hidextra hids) so i can have an of what i have and what to ask for when i replacxe them. thanks

I have 6k in my fogs, and I'd say that's what you have (bluish).
8k would be waay more blue!

I concur. Although the angle is kind of bad, they appear to be 6000k. I think 4300k is more pure/clean white. 5000k is still pretty white, I don't think it's as "pure" though. Below and above these numbers is 3000k (yellow) and 6000k ("crystal" bluish).

 

It looks to me like the light on the left (which is 6k I'm assuming) is brighter than the one on the right (8k)

 

i really have no angle on the shot. the camera was about 3 feet off the ground and aiming right to the middle of the car. when you are in person you can def see the white on the pass side and blueish on the driver. figure im gonna get the 6000k as it will still have some blue. hopefully the 6000k they send has that tint.

any other pics appreciated. want to make sure i order the right one

 

Initial post was a bit confusing. I understood you were comparing headlight colors to the fogs and were asking what color the fogs are. Clear now. Also, I mentioned angle because there are some angles when imaging light where you will get color effects...so I assumed because of the angle (elevated position).....we could see the bluish tint on the right (left side of car) and not see it in the left (right side of car). Another example of "angle:" Look at the light streaks coming off the lights, they are different, so this means the light is coming at the camera at different angles. The fogs themselves can be aimed, their aim is likely off/different which would explain this (note aduster on back of fogs).
If you can tell a difference in person, then it does seem you might have got two different colors....IMO 5000k and 6000k.

 

Try flipping the ballast vice-versa to troubleshoot whether you have a faulty ballast, or different temperature bulbs. Sometimes faulty ballast can project a whiter or more blue color than the bulb temp. you have. This happened to me once, One of my lights looked white, and the other one looked bluish like yours.

 

by the way, 6000 is the slight tint of blue (not too much)
If you get 8000k, those are pure blue, no white tint

 

i get what your saying. i may have been a bit off or so on the camera. also i had the fogs previously adjusted on one of the boards they use at a shop to get the right hieght.


i had the 2 new ballasts and i have 2 older ballasts. i did plug the older ballast into the new hid (whiter one) and that didnt make any difference. didnt think at the timeto try it on the other side (blueish one) and now im getting coverd with a snowfall.

i think i will get the 6000k but would like pics of cars with 6000k and with 5000k. just hopee the next set that comes are an even match whether blueish or pure white haahah

There's no quality control or consistency from one aftermarket HID company to the next, and not even consistency within the same company.

Not to mention, it's often difficult to capture the color of a bright object well with a photograph.

One person with a "8000K" kit might be royal blue. The next guy with a "8000k" kit might be white with just a small hint of blue.

When you're buying aftermarket HIDs, it's a shot in the dark. Guess roughly how much blue you want, order the corresponding kit, and hope that both bulbs are the color you want.

 

I'm just saying from experience. I have 5000K and both were the same color. One ballast went out, so I put my older ballast on there (same brand) and my color is now different, being the same light bulb.

I have them in for about 4 or so months. No problems for me for the most part. Ever once in a while (has happened twice) one of the lights would turn on at initial start-up. But like "nalc" said, HIDs are inconsistent in general.

 

 

I had 8k, then to 6k. I finally removed them because of the bad glare which was evident by the amount of people that would flash me, and the halogen high beam on those HID's are awful!

Go figure, noob posts something that's just a approx. of what HID colors should be.

 

At least it's somewhat better than most of the HID color temperature pics on ebay. There's a different picture for each bulb, as you can tell by the fact that the corner lamp is always orange.

Most HID sellers just take one picture, and adjust the hue in photoshop to make it whatever color they want. Apparently, if you buy these guys' kits, your amber sidemarker, the color of your cars paint, and the ambient lighting behind your car change color in accordance with the HID color temperature too

6000k all around in the sig...

 

from what i know your bulb is going out...that or balast I guess I dont know yet I just ordered bulbs, cause one of mine was a bit blue(i have stock bulbs) then after a little while it went pink then it went out...I hope it was the bulbs so any who I bet you have a bad bulb

 

im betting it waas a bad bulb too. i had swapped ballasts and no change. had another set of ballasts and tried one and no change as well. so im guessing a bulb as well. Hidextra have been great, i let them know and did what they stated and i have new 6000k bulbs coming.
