Spring Maintanence: Oil Filter Comparisons

Recently found this comparison. No official flow numbers and measurement of filtration, but I believe a good article non-the less. Goes over good picks for filters and identifies those you should absolutely avoid! I'll post the results. If you want to read the entire write up, you just click on the links indicated in the article.

AMS is the only oil and filter combo I will ever use. Products are amazing and have definitely made a difference in my wallet and in my engine.

Imagine my surprise when a local parts store had a sale for 5 quarts of Castrol High Mileage engine oil with a Fram Tough Guard filter. My initial reaction was to ditch the Fram and buy a Bosch since I took a look at the available filters for 2002 Maxima.

The Bosch felt better in my hands than the other filters, but that write up indicates the Tough Guard is certainly not the worst oil filter.

Good info!

Just be aware the Fram Tough Guard uses cardboard endcaps; although the ramifications are debatable, I would rather have metal ends which are used is many other filters. Overall, my favorites are (in no particular order): Bosch, Mobil 1, Purolator Pure One, Napa Gold (Wix) and K&N; with the Pure One leading the pack for value.

Damn and I knew I should have left the parts store with the Bosch oil filter. Well since I need to replace the oil cooler O-ring, I'm getting a bosch oil filter.

Edit: This looks to be another Engine Oil Filter comparison, http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...lterstudy.html

Same here. Every once in a while, Advance auto has that sale. $29.99 for 5 quarts of mobile 1 and a mobile 1 filter

Just bring the ad from one auto parts store to another competitor store and get the same oil/filter for the same price. Unless the first store does not limit per customer.
