2000 Maxima SE 5sp pics.
So inally got around to taking some pics of the car i picked up a few weeks ago.
Haven't had a chance to snap some pics because most of my time was fixing the probems the previous owner neglected to do.
So far since buying this car i have replaced or repaired...
1. tie rod ends had so much freeplay i could barely keep it straight in the way home, replaced with Moog tie rod ends.
2. performed alignment
3. replaced left side front wheel bearing ( the helicopter noise was driving me crazy )
4. replaced 2 bald tires ( tires were being chewed up due to the poor suspension setup )
5. driver side power reclining motor was burnt AND was getting no power to the motor connector from the power reclining switch ( took apart the seat and replaced the seat switch and reclining motor )
all power seat motors work great now
6. strut nuts were loose and was clunking over any crack
replaced the nut and tightened , no more clunks.
7. had dtc P1320 and was misfiring, replaced #6 coil ( bought from Napa, $77 with tax ) misfire gone.
i have future plans to...
1. replace ball joints ( boots are torn, has some freeplay )
2. replace Bose headunit ( cd player doesn't work )
3. replace 2 rear tires
4. right rear wheel is bent, need a new one.
5. has a small coolant leak i need to troubleshoot.
6. wil be replacing water pump & tensioner ( maintenance, no problems yet )
now onto the pics
mechanically it still needs some work but the body is flawless.

lemme know what you think

sellers asking price was $4500, was able to ask how low he would be willing to go and he said $3900.
i went to go see it and when i saw the body i was like man this hing is clean!
so i ended up giving him $3900.
so far i have spent around $400 in parts and zero labor ( i work in the service dept. at a lincoln/mercury/cadillac/suzuki dealership )
so far it has cost me a total of around $4300 and it drives awsome now!
i did notice when i really get on it at around 4k rpms it feels like it has a surge of power? If that makes any sense. i wonder if that is the NVIS kciking in?
don't know what that feels like but it's just a guess.
the acceleration is nothing like my turbo Sentra was, but that thing was like as hell and had around 230 hp so the difference i apples and oranges.
although i DO enjoy the cleanliness of the body and the color
next up
replacing ball joints. I was going to with Moog ball joints, but the last time i replaced my ball joints with Moog, i had to use a shop press to get 'em in. The ball joint tool you rent from AZ/Advance auto wasn't doing the trick.
then replace 2 more tires and then water pump and tensioner.
the condition it was in when i 1st got it would have broke any Maxima owners heart.
awesome looking ride! what a coincedence. i just bought a 00 SE 5spd myself, and i put tein S-techs on it.
you mentioned that there is a "surge" of power past 4k rpm. is it quite noticeable or do you have an aftermarket intake?
i dont really feel my VIAS kick in, but i revved up the motor and saw the little silver rod underneath the VIAS solenoid move so it must be working .
not sure if you posted this but how many miles does it have again?

yeah the surge is noticeable and no i don't have an intake. it's funny because it feels like i am being " pushed " faster to redline. One of these days i will take a video and post it. Kinda like a sling shot feeling.
i have read that 99% of all 5th gen VIAS stop working and need to be fixed via JB Weld.
and i bought it with 133,xxx miles.
hhmmm never heard of that exhaust flap.
although the VIAS systme does use a flap but thats on the intake side.
i have never felt a good working VIAS vehicle ( or Maxima VQ30DE motor for that matter ) , so i have nothing to cross refrence.
thats the only explanation i have right now.
and the engine is stock except for a test pipe and aftermarket muffler.

and your mileage is almost the same as mine. i bought mine with 131k on the clock.

yeah it is possible, like i said i have never felt what a good working NVIS system feels like so i have nothing to compare it against.
it is very possible it's just the MAF sensor , but i won't know until i take video and post it, maybe someone who has a good working NVIS can chime in .
no, i think it may be too harsh.

no, unfortunately not.
bought it off some kid who was going into the Navy and wanted to get rid of it. Checked craigslist for about a month looking for a decent A33 before finding this one .
most Maximas i found in my area were either overpriced or hunks of junk ( i.e owner neglected ) ...
had to drive 2 hours to pick it up

It looks great. The previous owner on mine was retired military, but didn't maintain it like crazy. I also had to pay a bit more for mine, but that was also almost five years ago. At least yours is in good hands now.
Yes, I also notice a "boost" at the higher rpms, especially when I'm trying to slingshort around someone on the interstate. It's a nice benefit, but I couldn't tell you exactly why it does that.

yeah see, i kinda figured it had somethintg to do with the NVIS, but i wasn't sure.
i've been realy busy lately i haven't had the time to check if it is working properly. I'm assuming it is.
And yeah i plan on rehabbing this horse back to 100% health...

It activates around 5000+rpms
